Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. This role is essential in maintaining the financial health of the practice while supporting efficient patient record management. Prior experience with EMR/EHR systems and a solid understanding of medical terminology are highly valued.
Duties
- Assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes to medical diagnoses and procedures
- Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately and promptly
- Follow up on unpaid claims and manage collections as needed
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy before coding
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and healthcare regulations
- Enter billing information into EMR/EHR systems with precision
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations
- Generate reports related to billing and coding activities for management review
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG classification, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with medical office operations and medical records management
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems is preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately
- Knowledge of medical billing software and claim submission processes
- Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is a plus but not mandatory
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients
