What are the responsibilities and job description for the Internship – General Internship position at HAWC Healing Abuse Working for Change?
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of domestic abuse advocacy, including research, policy analysis, community outreach, and administrative support. This internship is generally a good fit for someone working toward an undergraduate degree in communications, criminal justice, political science, public health, social work or a related major seeking general experience working in the nonprofit sector on social justice issues.

This internship is unpaid, but we are happy to work with students to arrange for academic credit if applicable.

Responsibilities
- Conduct research on domestic abuse service best practices and proposed legislation
- Draft memos and reports based on research findings
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed
- Communicate with community partners to support our outreach efforts
- Distribute outreach materials in the community
- Assist the Executive Director with special projects as assigned
- Shadow HAWC staff to gain insight into our work and the field of domestic abuse advocacy
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Flexible and willing to adapt to changing priorities
- Interest in social justice, public policy, or related fields
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student (high school students may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Available for one to two semesters
- Number of hours per week is flexible
- This internship offers a flexible schedule, with the possibility of some evening or weekend hours
- The position can be based at our Lynn or Salem offices, with opportunities to work remotely as needed
