GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, carries out the day to day operations of the radiology department.  These include but are not limited to planning, implementing and evaluating all aspects of the procedures being performed in the, Radiology Department. Supervising the employees in each department and working with the employees to provide harmonious departmental relations.  Adheres to the mission, values, and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

 

1.

At a manager's level, demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.

Plans for and implements change, problem solving skills, delegations skills, conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication skills.

3.

Promotes professional growth of self and staff.  

-           Utilizes coaching and counseling sessions.

-           Demonstrates organization and time management.

4.

Conducts performance reviews timely.

5.

Demonstrates knowledge of emergency plan and participates in disaster drills.

6.

Maintains policies and procedures for each department, with Medical Director consultant, when necessary.

7.

Develops, initiates and maintains a quality assurance program, and is a member of the CQM committee.

8.

Oversees the maintenance of radiographic equipment by contracting service personnel, monitoring repairs, and performing preventative maintenance.

9.

Keeps abreast on new trends in radiology by attending continuing education courses.

10.

Works with the pathologist or radiologist and hospital administrator to provide the best possible patient care addressing any problems that may arise.

11.

Maintains direct supervision of other technologists.

12.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

13.

Plans, develops, implements and controls the annual budget for areas of responsibility.

14.

Supervises Technologists/Technicians activities by preparing work schedules, making hiring recommendations to the Administrator, evaluates, disciplines, personnel and makes recommendations for promotion or termination and implements a training program for new employees.

15.

Assures quality and competency of technologist through use of quality control procedures:

  1. Surveying and checking sample testing
  2. Using current curves
  3. Procedures are conducted on a daily & monthly basis
  4. Observation image quality

16.

Advises the Administrator on matters of radiology progress and of any actual or potential technical or personnel problems.

17.

Sets up new methods or test procedures; makes recommendations regarding feasibility of implementing such procedures.

18.

Maintains a satisfactory level of efficiency by periodically reviewing the radiology workload, work patterns and budget status with the Hospital Administrator.

19.

Checks, rotates and maintains adequate inventory of supplies within the radiology department.

20.

Work equal hours, holidays, and on call as other technologists. Handles on call responsibilities with timeliness, efficiencies, and proper attitude.

21.

Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

22.

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.

23.

Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.

24.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
  1. Must be a graduate from an approved Radiological Technologist program, with cross training in Radiological Technologist fields preferred.
  2. One to two years prior supervisor/managerial experience required.
  3. Three to five years related clinical experience.
  4. Registration: Must be a registered/licensed radiologic technologist.
  5. Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with all individuals.
  6. Must be able to function effectively in a fast paced environment with a high level of stress.
  7. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
  8. May be requested to travel within the region.  When assigned to travel, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel.  
  9. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
  10. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. 
  11. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.
  2. Primarily works inside with frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting of supplies seldom in excess of 20 pounds. 
  1. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as inclement weather, dust, noise, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, and infectious disease.
  2. Color perception to distinguish stains, chemical reactions, specimen color, etc.
  3. Good manual dexterity for working with specimens and instruments.
  4. Must be able to work under stressful situations.
  5. Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
