The Senior Applications Engineer designs, develops, and implements complex solutions for core financial applications, providing enterprise-level expertise and mentoring other engineers.  This role aligns technical solutions with business needs through project leadership and stakeholder understanding.  The ideal candidate has superior technical skills, strategic perspective, and experience leading complex projects, including proactive analysis, problem resolution, and efficient data/process structures.  Success requires extensive SDLC experience, advanced technical support expertise, and strong interdisciplinary communication skills.  

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead design, development, and implementation of complex software/hardware solutions for banking and financial applications.
  • Act as the primary expert for complex issues, providing advanced analysis, troubleshooting, programming, and integration support.
  • Oversee technical roadmaps, projects, programs, and implementation plans.
  • Provide strategic input and lead initiatives to evaluate and implement new technologies.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering continuous learning.
  • Serve as the point of contact for vendors and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Administer and manage complex enterprise applications.
  • Lead multi-departmental teams on medium-to-large projects.
  • Ensure system compliance with financial regulations and best practices.
  • Represent the organization in conferences, meetings, and presentations.
  • Manage escalations and resolve complex issues.
  • Drive organizational improvement through new technologies.
  • Manage multiple application environments, ensuring security compliance.
  • Provide programming support for applications.
  • Complete project bids and gather system requirements from customers.
  • Continue professional development through participation in organizations and events.
  • Conduct research on new installations, upgrades, and training (lifting up to 50 pounds may be required).
  • Occasional travel (interisland or continental US) may be required.
  • Valid driver's license and use of own vehicle may be required for travel to branch locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of MS SQL Server Administration, data structures and algorithms, and SDLC processes.  
  • Expertise with operating systems, networks, server applications, and virtual machines. 
  • Expertise in standard ETL practices for data management. 
  • Advanced understanding of automation tools, processes, and practices.  
  • Expertise in Symitar Episys and PowerOn programming, or related similar programming experience. 

 

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in software development, systems integrations, and leadership with technical team 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related fields.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive SDLC knowledge.
  • Familiarity with standard development tools and best practices.
  • Advanced software code interpretation.
  • Understanding of automation tools and practices.
  • Large project management skills.
  • Process improvement expertise.
  • Proven technical support with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze customer problems and needs.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring applications.
  • Experience in managing financial business and technology processes.
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills.
  • Organizational, presentation, prioritization, and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and listening skills.
  • Proven success in leading and managing large-scale projects, with team leadership and mentoring experience.  

 

Minimum Physical & Other Requirements:

  • Sitting for extended periods of time 
  • Dexterity of hands and gingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components 
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals 
  • Ability to handle all confidential matters professionally, maintaining and protecting the members and HawaiiUSA FCU information.

Work Schedule:

  • Hybrid: After an in-person Monday-Friday. Following training period the Senior Applications Engineer can become a hybrid (full day in-office and full day work from home schedule of) half week in person, half week remote position. 
  • Monday to Friday
    • Occasional evening and weekend work required
    • On call availability 24/7
  • Quiet work from home space and high-speed internet required

 

Benefits & Pay

The expected pay range for the Senior Applications Engineer is $68,307 - $102,460/ year.


This range reflects the compensation we reasonably expect to offer for this role based on typical qualifications and market data. Offered pay may vary depending on the candidate’s experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
