Position Overview:
Kainalu Elementary School is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Grade K Teacher to join our lower-grade team in a co-teaching environment. The ideal candidate brings enthusiasm for teaching and learning, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to helping students become independent thinkers, problem-solvers, and compassionate classmates. This role is instrumental in preparing students for the academic and social demands of middle school while strengthening foundational skills across content areas.


Examples of Duties

  • Create and implement a developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned curriculum that supports literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning.
  • Foster a nurturing and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement, positive behavior, and a strong sense of belonging.
  • Use play-based and hands-on learning experiences to encourage exploration, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of tools to inform instruction and communicate regularly with families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to promote inclusive practices and ensure the success of all learners.

Minimum Qualifications

The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.

If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.

Upon hire you will need to have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit. You may apply for your Hawaii teaching license on the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board Website (https://hawaiiteacherstandardsboard.org/).

Payday

New employees can expect their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods of their start date. Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.

Salary : $51,835 - $72,941
