What are the responsibilities and job description for the On-Call Nurse position at Hawaii Preparatory Academy?
ABOUT THE POSITION:
HPA is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Health Services Department in an on-call role. This position is for two weekends per month of on-call coverage and possible additional per diem hours. The RN is responsible for providing high-quality healthcare to students, employees, and visitors while maintaining a safe and supportive environment. The RN will rotate on-call with other health team members and actively contribute to the health and well-being of our campus community. Candidates should live within 30 minutes of the campus and have weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care and medical advice to students, employees, and visitors.
- Rotate on-call nursing coverage.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers to prevent and treat sports-related injuries.
- Collaborate with dorm faculty when boarding students are ill.
- Transport students to medical, dental, and mental health appointments and ER as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records using an EMR system.
- Administer medications and vaccines as prescribed.
Working Conditions:
- Infirmary and dormitory settings, with occasional work in athletic areas/outdoors.
- Walking on uneven terrain across campus during the day and night.
- Transporting students to appointments in Hilo, Kona, and Waimea.
Physical Demands:
Maintain overall good health and fitness to provide physical support when needed.
Ability to walk steep and uneven terrain and drive HPA vehicles, including golf carts.,
Qualifications:
- Current RN license to practice in Hawai'i.
- Valid State of Hawai'i driver's license.
- Current Adult First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Basic computer skills (Google software, EMR systems)
- Strong nursing assessment, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergencies.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) (preferred)
- BLS, AED, and advanced CPR certifications (adult, child, and infant).
- Experience with pediatric patients (preferred)
Active-duty hours are anticipated to be paid between $30$34 per hour, depending on experience. Some hours are on-call/inactive and are compensated at an on-call rate.
This is a part-time, on-call position and therefore is not eligible for tuition remission.
