ABOUT THE POSITION:
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a long-term substitute for Upper School Social Studies Teacher for the first semester, beginning August 1 and concluding in mid-December. This role involves engaging high school students in the study of history, government, economics, geography, and current events through a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, inquiry, and effective communication.
The ideal candidate will bring creativity, flexibility, and a passion for social studies education, supporting students in developing a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives, historical contexts, and the interconnectedness of global issues. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that encourages discussion, analysis, and active participation.
Qualifications:
Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in Social Studies or a related field
Degree in Social Studies or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
Experience with high school students, accommodating various learning styles and assessment methods
Strong content knowledge in Social Studies literature and recent developments in Social Studies pedagogy
Ability to collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and within the department
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to engaging with the school community, including students, parents, and colleagues
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to fostering student confidence and curiosity.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support in Advisory role, grade-level curriculum planning, and student activities as needed
Applicants must be currently residing on Hawaii Island.
