Hawai'i Pacific University (HPU) is a private, non-profit institution of approximately 3,500 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Founded in 1965, it is Hawaii's largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu's business district.
Hawai`i Pacific University, Graduate College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a part-time (.5FTE) principal faculty position for the core science curriculum for its developing hybrid Master of Medical Science-Physician Assistant program.
The 24-month hybrid PA program is a blend of online (synchronous and asynchronous activities) and on-campus activities which allows the faculty member to live remote to the HPU campus. However, PA faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Honolulu for designated time periods each semester.
Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student-learning activities. We are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom, and building an inclusive student-centered community within the online classroom.
In addition to instructional, service, and scholarly activity, PA program faculty will participate in commencement, convocations and other university-wide events, and department and collegiate meetings in the week before the start of academic terms. Faculty presence and engagement is expected each semester.
This is a part-time, 12-month 18 credit exempt faculty position with instructional semesters in spring, summer, and fall. Regular travel to the state of Hawaii is required.
Compensation
$50,000 - $60,000/year

Qualifications

- Master degree as a PA or a doctoral degree in a medical science related field (e.g. PharmD, PhD or ScD in a medical science area)
- At least one year of experience in PA or medical/health professional related education
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Demonstrated evidence of online teaching effectiveness
- Experience teaching in a PA program
- Evidence of alignment with HPU PA Program mission, vision, and values
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position
- Able to teach classes online and/or in-person during days, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work during regular business hours in the Hawai'i Standard time zone
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU's winter break, spring break, and holidays, if necessary
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to facilitate travel to HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position.
