Sales/Interpretation Associate
Hawai‘i Pacific Parks Association (HPPA) seeks part-time Sales/Interpretation Associates for its visitor center park stores in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park located on Hawai‘i Island. The Sales/Interpretation Associate greets and welcomes visitors, provides information and interpretation, and promotes the sales of interpretive merchandise.
Position Description - Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Greet and welcome visitors, provide basic park information and interpretation
- Assist visitors in the selection of appropriate interpretive merchandise
- Complete sales transactions
- Maintain the appearance and function of the sales area
- Secure all monies with appropriate documentation
- Receive, price and process incoming merchandise
- Assist with duties such as office, banking or inventory-related functions
- Follow standard operating procedures when working in the park; and,
- Solicit Memberships for the Association
Other Duties:
- Sales/Interpretation Associates may be asked to conduct and participate in cultural programs and demonstrations.
Minimum Qualifications and Necessary Skills:
- High School diploma or GED
- Previous retail sales experience
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Demonstrated cash-handling skills
- Working knowledge of POS systems and credit card machines
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and exercise good judgment
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to work at high altitudes
- Must have positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professional demeanor
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Should have basic knowledge of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and Hawai‘i
Wages/Benefits:
- Hours per Week: PT
- Wages: Based on experience
- Starting Date: Within two weeks of hire
- Benefits: Medical, paid holiday, vacation, sick leave; and employee retirement plan
Position will be required to work weekends, holidays, mornings and evenings.
