JOB DUTIES:
I. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Content Development and Communications –
Research, writes, and edits content for newsletters, website, and printed materials.
Develops patient, staff, and community feature stories in coordination with departments and leadership.
Produces internal and external communications, including talking points, media releases, and presentations.
Assists with photography, layout, and design coordination.
Ensures all written materials align with brand voice and HHSC guidelines.
Outreach and Public Relations –
Supports media relations and community engagement initiatives.
Gathers stories and photos at events and community programs.
Collaborates with the Marketing and Events team to promote regional initiatives.
Assists in maintaining the communications archive and distribution lists.
Administrative Support and other Duties and Responsibilities –
Tracks and reports communication metrics.
Provides up support for social media management and event coordination.
Performs other related duties as assigned. Maintains event records, calendars, and reports.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.
Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience below or any other progressively responsible administrative, professional, or other analytical work experience which provided knowledge, skills, and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level, and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience:
Three (3) years of professional experience in researching, analyzing, organizing, planning, and coordinating program activities, such as in community relations, public relations, event planning, and customer service; development of policies and procedures; marketing programs; and preparing written information for dissemination to print and broadcast news media.
Substitution of Education and Experience:
Possession of an associate's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of specialized work experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of specialized work experience.
If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degree, transcripts must be provided, and a thorough review will be conducted by the human resources staff in order for more than one degree to be credited toward the minimum qualification requirements (if applicable).
Quality of Experience:
Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that they have the ability to perform the duties of the position for which they are being considered.
Selective Certification:
Specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. In such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established, and certification may be restricted to those who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position.

I. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Thorough knowledge of the principles of community relations, public relations, and communication, including program planning and evaluation techniques; social media platforms and digital communication tools; principles and techniques used in writing informational material; techniques used in preparing and editing copy for printing; local organizations, regulatory organizations (i.e., The Joint Commission), State and Federal Laws, functions and operations; understand public relations and media relations practices; and marketing strategies and community outreach techniques.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate various community relations programs; interpret laws, rules and regulations; speak effectively before individuals and groups; write clearly, edit and prepare materials for presentation; direct the accurate and concise presentation of facts; work collaboratively with media representatives, administrative staff; the public and others; analyze, evaluate and draw sound conclusions and recommendations for available data; work independently and take initiative; manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
