    UNIVERSAL OBLIGATIONS/EXPECTATIONS OF EACH STAFF MEMBER
    It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will:
    (1) put the safety, health and well-being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities and decisions, and (2) undertake all duties in alignment with the District's Strategic Plan.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    :
    • Acts under the direction of the Band Director and assumes the functions and duties of the Band Director in his/her absence.
    • Assists in planning, organizing, and conducting rehearsals for concert band, marching band, pep band, jazz band, and other instrumental music ensembles as assigned.
    • Provides instruction in instrumental music techniques, musicianship, music theory, and performance skills.
    • Assists with preparing students for concerts, festivals, parades, competitions, and other performances.
    • Supports the Band Director in maintaining appropriate student discipline, attendance, and conduct during rehearsals, performances, travel, and other band-related activities.
    • Assists with supervision of students during rehearsals, performances, competitions, field trips, and other school-sponsored events.
    • Assists with inventory, maintenance, storage, and care of instruments, uniforms, music, equipment, and facilities.
    • Helps coordinate music library organization, music distribution, and equipment setup and teardown.
    • Promotes teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and positive citizenship among students.
    • Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members regarding band activities.
    • Assists with recruiting and retaining students in the instrumental music program.
    • Maintains current knowledge of instructional practices, performance standards, and safety procedures related to instrumental music education.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Band Director, Principal, or Superintendent.

    DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Holds or is eligible for a valid Montana teaching certificate with appropriate music endorsement.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of instrumental music instruction, rehearsal techniques, and performance practices.
    • Ability to read and interpret music, instructional materials, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively direct small and large groups of students.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff, and community members.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
    • Ability to handle stressful situations while maintaining professionalism.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
    • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all District requirements and Board policies.
    • Ability to effectively organize time, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Musical instruments, music stands, sound systems, audio/video equipment, computers, music notation and instructional software, copier, telephone/voice mail, printer, projector, and other equipment related to instrumental music instruction and performance.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate with a variety of co-workers and supervisors.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.
    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The employee constantly works around others, works with the public, and works inside and outside. The employee is regularly exposed to moderate to loud noise levels associated with rehearsals, performances, and school events. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and work evenings, weekends, and travel as required for performances and school-sponsored activities.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    The employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand for extended periods. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist while performing the duties of this position. The employee will occasionally reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently uses hand strength and fine motor skills to demonstrate instrumental techniques and operate equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, including musical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
    MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness and concentration. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions requiring effective oral and written communication. Reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, and sound judgment are constantly used and required in planning instruction, supervising students, and supporting performances.
