Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority:                          Directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools and or his/her designee and the Supervisor of Health and Nursing Services

Statement of Duties:

  • Assist with coordination of RN/LPN/CNA job assignments and placements, with a focus of creating equitable and manageable caseloads across the district.
  • Assist with scheduling and planning for monthly meetings with a focus on providing quality continuing education opportunities and ensuring best practice.
  • Participate in job interviews for RNs, LPNs, CNAs.
  • Assist with orientation and training of RNs, LPNs and CNAs in the district.
  • Act as a resource/mentor to new RNs, LPNs, CNAs in the district.
  • Assist with staff training as appropriate.
  • Assist with coordination of the needs of the district's medically fragile student population with the nurse team leader.
  • Attend state and local trainings regarding nursing law, policy and assist with implementing changes if necessary.
  • Assist with ensuring best practices are being followed by assisting nurse leader in creation or evaluation of procedures.
  • Complete Medication Administration in Schools: What School Nurse Managers Need to Know and be the backup to the nurse leader as medication manager
  • Assist nurse leader with monthly and annual reports
  • Attend monthly lead team meetings, monthly clinical team meetings, and weekly admin team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years full time or equivalent part time paid experience as a registered nurse in a recognized public school or public health agency.
  • Bilingual
  • Must possess a current, valid Registered Nurse License issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration.
  • Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a School Nurse - Required
  • NCSN preferred
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Knowledge of present-day public health nursing practice including its underlying principles and techniques.
  • Must be able to function independently, prioritize, have good organization skills and be able to multitask.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move in and out of office, classrooms, buildings, and up and down stairs. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Strength to lift and/or carry materials/items/persons weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance as the students may need positioning.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
