POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Massachusetts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assists in the interpretation of nursing policies and ensures appropriate implementation. Directs and enforces policies and procedures with staff, families, and visitors.
2. For nursing staff, supervises and coordinates activities to ensure continuity of nursing care; acts as a resource in all areas of clinical care; resolves work-related issues about nursing and CNA staff; and provides education, mentoring, and corrective action as appropriate.
3. Makes rounds on nursing units to ensure maximum care and ascertain the condition of residents and communicates family concerns as appropriate.
4. Responds to emergencies within the facility and provide medical oversight.
5. Verifies that all clinical changes are reported to the physician and verification of physicians’ orders as well.
6. Secures pre-admission reports on new residents.
7. Ensures a safe environment for residents and staff.
8. Ensures all documentation on medical records is complete and accurate (including but not limited to: A & I’s; 24-hour Nursing Report; Nursing Assessments; MD Orders; changes in conditions, and documentation involving admissions, discharges, deaths, and transfers). Conducts chart audits.
9. Ensures availability of supplies and equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to DNS/ADNS.
10. Oversees schedules of physicians. Notifies physicians and Medical Director that visits to residents are due.
11. Assumes DNS/ADNS responsibility in their absence and charge nurse responsibility when necessary.
12. Ensure the crash cart is properly stocked.
13. Audits control of drugs and counts controlled medications routinely according to facility directives.
14. Ensures that all peripheral IVs are initiated per facility policy and monitors the overall IV program. Ensures IV policy is updated annually.
15. Responsible for assigning nursing personnel in emergencies to maintain patient care hours.
16. Assists in the recruitment, selection, and of orientation nursing staff as needed.
17. Collaborates in the completion of employee performance reviews.
18. Attends care plan meetings as needed.
19. Assumes responsibility for Medicare residents by attending weekly Medicare meetings when needed.
20. Attends meetings appropriately including but not limited to morning reports, and standards of care.
21. Ensures pharmacy consultant recommendations are followed up and completed.
22. Audit medication ordering using refill ‘too soon’ reports.
23. Conduct pain management audits.
24. Assumes any other duties as assigned by DNS/ADNS. Performs other related duties and attends meetings as requested by Supervisor / Administrator and or Director.
