Haverhill Pavilion Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Admissions Department on a part-time basis. Schedule
Part-Time, Sundays
Flexible schedule, approximately:
- 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
Compensation
$40.00 - $47.00 per hour, depending on experience
Weekend differential applicable where eligible.
The Role
Our Admissions RN serves in both an admissions nursing and admissions coordination capacity. This position is responsible for reviewing referrals, completing clinical assessments, coordinating admissions, and collaborating with providers to ensure patients receive the right level of care at the right time.
The RN serves as a clinical liaison between referral sources, emergency departments, providers, patients, and families throughout the admissions process. The ideal candidate is clinically strong, organized, customer-service focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced behavioral health environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming referrals and clinical documentation for prospective admissions
- Conduct nursing assessments for patients seeking admission
- Perform medication reconciliations and obtain nurse-to-nurse reports
- Collaborate with psychiatrists regarding admission decisions and treatment recommendations
- Coordinate admissions and facilitate smooth patient transitions into treatment
- Communicate with hospitals, emergency departments, crisis centers, referral sources, and community providers
- Ensure required medical documentation is obtained prior to admission
- Assist with insurance authorizations and admission approvals when applicable
- Monitor patient status throughout the admissions process and communicate significant findings to providers
- Complete admission documentation accurately and timely
- Maintain detailed and compliant clinical records
- Support census growth through exceptional responsiveness and customer service
- Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement activities
- Communicate professionally and therapeutically with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues
Registered Nurse Essential Functions
- Assess physical and behavioral health needs of patients
- Utilize clinical judgment to determine appropriateness for admission
- Develop and implement nursing care plans as needed
- Educate patients and families regarding medical and behavioral health conditions
- Maintain therapeutic boundaries while building rapport
- Support a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed care environment
- Practice within the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act and facility policies
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Massachusetts RN license
- Minimum one year of RN experience required
- Behavioral health, psychiatric, emergency department, crisis services, or admissions experience preferred
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities
