What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home Health Aide - All Experience Levels Welcome (We Train!) position at Haven Home Care?

Haven Home Care | $16/Hour Paid Travel Between Clients

The Short Version

No certificate? No problem. We train you for free.

Have a certificate? Great. You're ahead.

Have experience but no certificate? Your experience counts.

We pay $16/hour. You could start in 1-2 weeks.

We pay you for drive time between clients. Most places don't do this.

You pick your limits. No smokers? We won't give you smokers. Can't drive far? We won't send you far. You set the rules. We follow them.

We've been around since 1998. We're a small local company in Ohio.

Where we need help: Akron, Barberton, Copley, Cuyahoga Falls, Hartville, Hudson, Kent, New Franklin, Norton, Rootstown, Silver Lake, Stow, Tallmadge, and Uniontown.

About service areas: We match clients based on how far you're willing to travel, not just city names. If you say you can travel 30 minutes, we may assign clients anywhere within that 30-minute range.

Three Ways to Join Us

Way 1: You have a certificate You took a 30-hour (or more) HHA class. You have the paper to prove it. Start in 5-8 days.

Way 2: You have experience but no certificate You worked as an HHA for at least 1 year. A nurse was your boss. Your experience counts. We just need your old job to confirm it. Start in 5-8 days after they confirm.

Way 3: You're new to this No certificate. No experience. That's fine. We give you free online training. 32 hours. You do it at home. Start in 1-2 weeks.

Why People Like Working Here

$16/hour for all your work time, including driving between clients

$19/hour if you bring us a private pay client and work with them

No forced overtime. Max 40 hours a week.

Same clients every week. You build real friendships.

You work alone. No boss watching you all day.

You pick your limits. Pets, smoking, travel distance. We follow your rules.

$100 bonus after 30 days if you show up on time to every shift

10% extra on holidays. That's $17.60/hour.

What You Do

You help people in their homes. Mostly older adults.

You help with:

Baths and getting dressed

Making meals

Light cleaning

Running errands

Keeping them company

This job is physical. You help people move around. You stand most of the time. If you need help doing these things, tell us. We can talk about what might work.

You do NOT give medicine. You do NOT do medical stuff. That's for nurses.

What You Need

Driver's license

Your own car with insurance

Pass background checks

Pass a short test at 80% (Ohio requires this for all home health aides)

Can work at least 20 hours a week

Available between 6AM and 8PM (most work is 8AM-5PM)

How Fast Can You Start?

How fast you start depends on two things:

How fast you finish the steps. Every day you wait pushes your start date back.

How open your limits are. If you say yes to most things (pets, smoking, travel), we can match you fast. If you say no to a lot, you wait longer for the right client.

About the test: You can take it online if you have a laptop with a camera and microphone. You don't have to wait for our nurse's schedule.

Bring Your Own Clients

Know someone who needs home care? You can refer them to us.

You can refer:

Friends or neighbors

Family members (like your own parents)

Anyone you know who needs help at home

If they sign up and you work with them, you get bonuses AND you get to care for someone you already know.

For clients on Medicaid waiver programs: You earn your regular $16/hour working with them. Plus you get a $100 bonus after they've been a client for 1 month.

For private pay clients: You earn $19/hour instead of $16/hour when working with them. Plus you get a bonus based on their hours. The more hours they need, the bigger the bonus. Bonuses range from $75 to $1,500.

We can talk about the details during your phone interview.

What We Don't Have

No PTO. Time off is unpaid. Give us 1 month notice.

No 401k. No health insurance.

We're a small company. We can't afford these things.

No career ladder. This is a caregiving job. It stays a caregiving job. What grows is your relationships with clients and your paycheck through bonuses and referrals.

What we DO have: Your schedule and clients match the limits you tell us during your phone interview. One caregiver has been with us 18 years. If you want to change your limits later, just let us know.

After You Apply

You'll get a text AND email from us right away.

Save our number: (330) 400-3423

Important: Text us. Don't call. We might not answer calls. We always check texts.

Check your spam folder. Our emails sometimes go there.

Want to Know Everything Before You Apply?

If you want all the details about how client matching works, how assignments happen, and everything else, keep reading below.

How You Get Clients

There are three ways you get work with us:

Way 1: We assign you a permanent client We have clients who need a caregiver on a regular schedule. If one matches your limits, we assign them to you. This can happen right after you finish hiring. You don't have to wait.

Way 2: Fill-in shifts A client's regular caregiver called off sick. We need someone to cover. Our care coordination team texts and calls you daily with these chances. You can say yes or no.

Way 3: You bring us a client You refer someone who needs care. They sign up with us. You work with them. You get bonuses plus you care for someone you already know.

How Client Matching Really Works

Two things control how fast you start working. Both are in your control.

Thing 1: How fast you finish the steps.

Every step you delay pushes back your start date. Every step you finish fast moves it up.

If you wait 3 days to send your papers, you start 3 days later. If you wait a week, you start a week later. Simple math.

About the test: You can take it online. You need a laptop with a camera and microphone. This means you don't have to wait for our nurse's in-person schedule. Online is faster.

Thing 2: How open your limits are.

You tell us your limits. Pets, smoking, how far you'll drive, what days and times you can work.

These limits decide which clients we can give you.

Here's How It Works

Example A: You're open to most things

You say: "I'm okay with pets. I'm okay with smokers. I can drive 30 minutes. I can work most days."

We might have 5 clients right now. You could match all 5. You could start with 20, 30, even 40 hours a week right away.

Example B: You have strict limits

You say: "No pets. No smokers. Only 15 minutes. Only Tuesdays."

We might have 10 clients. But none of them fit your rules. You wait until we get someone who does. That could take 1-2 weeks.

Example C: You're open, but we have no clients today

Your limits are wide open. But we happen to have no one available today.

Good news: The next client we get goes to you. Could be tomorrow. Could be 2 days. You're first in line because you match everything.

The Simple Math

Move fast say yes to most things = start in days

Move fast say no to a lot = finish hiring fast, then wait for a match

Move slow say yes to most things = you're slowing yourself down for no reason

Move slow say no to a lot = longest wait

We're not the hold-up. You are.

What We Tell You in Your Phone Interview

We don't guess. We tell you exactly where things stand.

"We have clients ready NOW that match your limits" → Finish hiring fast, work fast

"We have fill-in shifts available" → Start earning right away while we find your regular clients

"No matches for your limits right now" → You'll wait until we get one (could be days, could be 1-2 weeks)

Your First 2 Weeks

During your first 2 weeks, we gauge your reliability. We may ask you to take fill-in shifts if they match your limits.

But if we have permanent clients available that match you, we assign them right away. Permanent assignments come first.

After we see you're reliable, you settle into your regular schedule.

After Your First 2 Weeks

You have your own clients. Same people every week.

Most caregivers have 2-4 regular clients.

You can still pick up extra fill-in shifts if you want more hours. Our care coordination team reaches out daily with chances.

When You Can Work

6AM-8PM available? You get first pick of everything.

8AM-5PM available? Good news. This is when 80% of clients need help.

Mornings only? Evenings only? Harder, but possible.

Only after 4PM? You probably can't hit 20 hours. Most clients need daytime help.

About The Free Training (Way 3 Only)

The training is online. You do it at home on your computer.

It's 32 hours total. You have 6 days to finish.

This training is NOT paid. You don't earn money during training. You earn money after you pass and start working with clients.

If you don't finish in 6 days, we close your application. We can't make exceptions. If something comes up, text us right away.

About The Test

Ohio says all home health aides must pass a test. This isn't our rule. It's the state's rule.

The test has two parts: Written questions. Skills you show.

You need 80% on both parts.

Already took this test somewhere else? Show us your results. If you got 80% or higher, you don't test again.

Never took it? No problem. We give it to you.

How to take it:

Option 1: Online. You need a laptop with a camera and microphone. You can do it anytime. You have 5 days.

Option 2: In person. Our nurse gives it. Only at 6:30 PM.

Online is faster for most people.

About Pay

You get paid every 2 weeks. Direct deposit. W-2 employment.

You get paid for:

Time with clients

Drive time BETWEEN clients

You do NOT get paid for:

Driving to your first client

Driving home from your last client

The Money Breakdown

$16/hour = Your base pay for all work time and travel between clients

$19/hour = What you earn when working with a private pay client you brought us

$17.60/hour = Holiday pay (10% extra)

$100 bonus = After 30 days with perfect attendance

$100 bonus = When you refer a caregiver who stays 30 days

$100 bonus = When you refer a client on a Medicaid waiver program (paid after 1 month)

$75-$1,500 bonus = When you refer a private pay client (amount depends on their hours)

Referring Family Members

Yes, you can refer your own family members. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles.

If they need home care and qualify, we can set them up as clients. You can be their caregiver. All the same bonuses apply.

We'll talk about the details during your phone interview. Every situation is different based on their insurance or payment type.

Support After You're Hired

Our Care Coordination Team helps you with everything.

Questions about clients? Call them.

Schedule problems? Call them.

Concerns about anything? Call them.

They're available during work hours. For urgent stuff too.

Client not working out? Tell us right away. Sometimes people don't click. We'd rather move you to a new client than lose you.

What Makes Us Different

Other agencies:

Make you drive far even when you said you wouldn't

Force overtime

Give you smokers when you said no smokers

Give you pet homes when you said no pets

Change your schedule all the time

Us:

We follow your limits. Period.

No overtime. 40 hours max.

Same clients every week.

The trade-off: Following your limits means fewer clients might match you. If you're very strict, you wait longer. That's just math.

Types of Clients You'll Help

Mostly older adults who need help with daily life

Some people with disabilities

Some people recovering from surgery

Some people with memory problems who need company and safety

You will NOT give medicine. You will NOT do wound care. You will NOT do medical procedures.

If You Haven't Heard From Us

Check these things:

Did our email go to spam?

Is your phone working?

Did you give us the right number?

Did you block unknown callers?

We track all our messages. If there's a gap, it's usually a phone or email problem on your end.
