Shipping Level 3 – Forklift Operator
POSITION TITLE: Forklift Operator Level 3 POSITION LOCATION: Vonore, TN
POSITION REPORTS TO: Warehouse Team Leader POSITION SUPERVISES: N/A
POSITION SUMMARY:
Shipping Level 3 employees are considered forklift, crane, and yard dog operators. This position deals with kitting per customer specifications, organizes loads, directs trailer sequences and overall lines out work. This position is also required to oversee and assist all other employees assigned to that area regarding safety, quality, operations, maintenance and continuous improvement. It also deals with the transfer of material boards throughout the warehouse safely and efficiently. This positions also requires the operation of a forklift or crane to load kits onto trailers while following the SOP for tarping the trailers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety
- Must follow and help enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to OSHA and HAVCO safety rules/regulations.
- Must identify and aid in the corrections of any safety hazards.
- Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
- Must be able to move material safely using proper lifting and flipping techniques.
- Identify and aid in the corrections of any unsafe behavior through co-worker awareness.
- Must operate yard dog and forklifts safely throughout the warehouse and outside in the yard.
- Responsible for inspecting forklift and/or yard dog daily to ensure safe operating condition.
Quality
- Must be able to read, gather or obtain information from each BOM and PWO work order and customer prints, all of the customer’s requirements pertaining to quality, customer satisfaction or loading requirements.
- Identify and aid in the corrections of any quality issues.
- Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any quality issues or concerns.
- Must perform daily quality inspections in their assigned area.
- Must be able to use instruments such as tape measures to insure quality specifications are met.
- Must be able to repair boards to customer specifications and calipers.
Operation
- Must be able to safely operate the yard dog, forklift, and trailers in placement and transfer situations.
- Must be able to maintain a constant and consistent flow of material through the process, including staging loads for facilitating efficient flow of material.
- Must be able to set-up and understand all kitting prints, PWO, BOM, customer prints, and loading requirements.
- Must stop production of material when quality issues are identified.
- Must stop equipment when it is identified to be unsafe to run.
- Must be able to work any required overtime, including weekends.
- Must be able to inspect and run crane and forklift safely.
- Ensures that adequate supplies for area of operation are available.
- The employee is required to maintain regular, reliable and predictable attendance and punctuality.
Maintenance
- Must possess the ability to exercise and maintain good communication skills with the Maintenance staff team to ensure all machinery is in good working conditions at all times.
- Must perform routine maintenance activities including, but not limited to Preventative Maintenance (PM).
- Must be able to troubleshoot equipment defects.
- Must fill out required maintenance documents to include, but not limited to Preventative Maintenance (PM) sheets, work orders, and daily forklift checks.
- Must be able to learn and follow the Operator Base Maintenance (OBM) Pillar Route.
- Participate on Operator Base Maintenance (OBM) Teams.
Continuous Improvement
- Must be willing to participate on and understand Root Cause Analyses (RCA) practices.
- Must have an understanding of Continuous Improvement (CI) Structure.
- Must be willing to participate on AD-HOC teams to eradicate or minimize issues/losses.
- Must be willing to participate on Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams/Pillars.
EDUCATION: Must possess a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 year of Operating and Manufacturing experience preferred but not required.

- Must be able to work in hot environments.
- Must be able to stand 8 – 12 hours/day.
- Must be able to bend, twist, turn, and lift 10-100 lbs. routinely.
- Must possess the ability to work at a fast pace both safely and consistently.
