What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Operations Contractor position at Haus?
Field Operations ContractorProperty Inspections, Setup & Light Maintenance — NYC
Location: New York City
Type: Hourly contractor
Schedule: Flexible / as-needed, with potential for consistent weekly hours
About the Role
Haus is looking for a highly reliable, detail-oriented, hands-on Field Operations Contractor to support our portfolio of furnished apartments across New York City.
You’ll serve as our eyes and hands in the field — inspecting apartments, completing setup and reset tasks, resolving straightforward issues, coordinating with vendors and building staff, and making sure our apartments consistently meet Haus standards.
This is a good fit for someone who is proactive, organized, responsive, naturally handy, and comfortable working independently. You should be someone who notices the small things, thinks ahead about potential problems, and takes ownership of a task from start to finish.
You’ll work closely with the Haus operations and design teams, so a strong eye for presentation and the ability to follow direction while also using good judgment in the field are important.
What You’ll DoProperty Inspections
- Conduct thorough apartment inspections before and after guest stays
- Work through Haus inspection checklists and identify anything that needs attention
- Take clear, useful photos and videos documenting apartment condition and completed work
- Confirm furniture, housewares, linens, supplies, appliances, Wi-Fi, keys and other essentials are in place and properly set up
- Check that furniture, décor and household items are properly positioned and presented throughout the apartment
- Immediately flag damage, maintenance issues, missing items or anything that could negatively impact a guest experience
- Think proactively about potential issues and flag them before they become problems
Apartment Setup & Guest Readiness
- Help stage and reset apartments according to Haus and designer direction
- Move, assemble and properly position furniture and décor
- Assemble furniture and other household items accurately and efficiently
- Place linens, housewares, artwork, décor and supplies according to provided direction
- Restock missing items and identify items that need to be ordered or replaced
- Help prepare newly launched apartments and assist with final punch-list items
- Ensure apartments are clean, organized, thoughtfully arranged and fully guest-ready before arrival
- Review your work before leaving the property and make sure all assigned tasks are fully completed
Light Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Handle straightforward repairs and fixes that do not require a licensed trade
- Tighten screws, handles and fixtures
- Replace batteries and accessible light bulbs
- Adjust or replace toilet seats
- Unclog simple drain/toilet blockages
- Address loose furniture or basic hardware issues
- Troubleshoot simple appliance, TV, Wi-Fi or apartment setup issues
- Identify when an issue requires a professional and escalate appropriately
- Recognize when something is likely to become a larger issue and communicate it proactively
Guest & Field Support
- Respond to occasional in-person guest needs
- Assist with keys, fobs, lockboxes and apartment access
- Help troubleshoot issues that cannot be solved remotely
- Support move-ins, move-outs and walkthroughs when needed
- Provide timely updates from the field so the team always knows the status of an assignment
Vendor & Building Coordination
- Meet or provide access to cleaners, maintenance technicians, delivery teams and other vendors
- Coordinate professionally with doormen, supers, property managers, contractors and building staff
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with everyone working in or around the property
- Document work completed with clear photos/videos and written updates
- Follow up on outstanding items and make sure issues are actually resolved before closing them out
- Identify problems with vendor work and flag anything that does not meet expectations
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Maintain fast and consistent communication via phone, text and Slack while working in the field
- Acknowledge assignments and provide updates throughout the day
- Communicate clearly when unavailable or when an assignment cannot be completed as expected
- Ask questions when direction is unclear rather than making assumptions that could create additional work
- Work closely with the Haus operations and design teams to execute apartment setups and launches
- Be receptive to feedback and able to adjust based on Haus standards and designer direction
- Take ownership of assignments from initial instruction through final completion and documentation
What We’re Looking For
- Extremely reliable, responsive and detail-oriented
- Proactive and able to think ahead about potential problems
- Strong follow-through and ownership of assigned tasks
- Comfortable working independently throughout NYC
- Naturally handy and able to solve straightforward household problems
- Comfortable assembling furniture and working with basic tools
- Strong eye for detail, organization and apartment presentation
- Able to follow detailed instructions and execute a specific design or setup vision
- Strong judgment about what you can fix yourself vs. what needs to be escalated
- Comfortable interacting professionally with guests, building staff, vendors and contractors
- Strong communication skills and a professional, friendly demeanor
- Smartphone and ability to use Slack and other basic apps
- Able to provide clear photos, videos and real-time updates from the field
- Able to travel independently between properties
- Comfortable lifting/moving ordinary household items and performing basic physical work
- Basic tools are a plus
Availability
This is a flexible position, but broad availability and responsiveness during the workday are important.
Most work occurs during weekdays, but some assignments may occur in the evenings or on weekends depending on guest arrivals, departures and operational needs.

- Can respond promptly by phone, text or Slack during working hours
- Can take on assignments with relatively short notice
- Communicates clearly and proactively when unavailable
- Provides real-time updates while completing field work

The position is initially as-needed, with the potential for meaningful and consistent weekly hours as the portfolio grows.
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
