Hauptman Ham, LLP, a mid-sized, boutique intellectual property law firm based in Alexandria, Virginia with offices in China, Korea and Japan, is seeking an IP Docket Specialist.

The IP Docket Specialist supports the firms U.S. and foreign practice groups, and is a vital part of our docketing team and aids the department and Docketing Manager. This position provides essential and specialized client and attorney support relating to docketing and deadline maintenance of all phases of domestic and foreign trademark and patent prosecution (from pre-filing to final maintenance of issued trademarks and patents).  This role is deadline driven and requires strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, resourcefulness, efficiency, flexibility including the ability to adapt to change and balance competing deadlines, priorities, and teamwork.

Minimum three years of trademark and patent docketing and/or IP prosecution experience with proficiency using IP docketing software. Strong knowledge of patent and trademark prosecution process. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and internet research. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills required. Must demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, cooperation, respect for others and relationship-building skills.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for monitoring assigned shared mailboxes and related docket requests and docketing the same in a timely manner according to firm guidelines and procedures.
  • Creation of new patent and trademark matters within the firm’s docketing system.
  • Review and accurately comprehend USPTO, PCT and foreign documents to ensure all deadlines are identified and docketed.
  • De-docket completed deadlines.
  • Verify the accuracy of docketed items, de-docket items and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Acknowledging and processing incoming faxes.
  • Assisting with IP projects and other related items as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned or required.
