Position Overview:
Alabama Cemetery Services is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. As a member of the crew, you will be responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery grounds, installing headstone memorials and providing assistance during burials. We are looking for someone with zero turn lawn mowing experience, previous tractor trailer experience, and backhoe operation experience, as it is a crucial aspect of this role. Experience in a similar field is preferred. This position offers competitive pay, up to $19 per hour, based on experience. Responsibilities:
- Assist with burial preparations, including digging graves and ensuring the site meets all safety requirements
- Install headstone memorials in accordance with cemetery guidelines and customer requests
- Operate and maintain tractor trailers and other equipment used in cemetery maintenance
-Operate zero turn lawn mowers, weed eaters and blowers to maintain cemetery grounds.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure working environment
Requirements:
- Previous experience operating tractor trailers and other heavy machinery
- Proficiency in headstone installation techniques and burial procedures
- Attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects up to or over 75 lbs
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating a backhoe
- Previous experience in cemetery or funeral home maintenance
- Familiarity with cemetery regulations and procedures
- Basic knowledge of landscaping and groundskeeping practices
