Specialized Paraprofessional - Library 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Overview:

The Library Paraprofessional, in collaboration with the building principal and curriculum coordinators, promotes and encourages students and staff to access the school library media center and resources in its entirety as well as perform clerical and computer duties to support library functions. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Leads Building-based  K-5 Reading Incentive programs to foster a love of reading and encourage staff and students to access library resources
• Supports, reinforces, and encourages personalized learning through the selection of age/interest appropriate literary materials in collaboration with students and staff.
• Implementation of Digital Citizenship curriculum K-5
• Support and reinforce basic computer and keyboarding skills K-2
• Collaborates with teachers on the integration of instruction in use of library services with class activities aligned with units of study i.e. research/ assembly of resources for class research, STEAM, intervention, and enrichment during library based on grade level needs and curriculum 
• Assists students and staff by answering questions on the use of the library, internal and external resources and location of materials  
• Supports the circulation of resources in the library including check-in/check-out and manage current records to keep resources maintained and up to date. 
• Researches and orders books, periodicals, and other audio visual tech supplies to maintain current collection
• Supervises students during library visits
• Reinforces instruction under lead educator’s and/or curriculum coordinator’s management
• In collaboration with teachers, curriculum coordinators, and/or principal, develops seasonal or thematic displays to highlight areas of our resource collection. 
• At the elementary level, teaches classes and may be requested to fulfill arrival, dismissal and recess duties
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee         

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required 
• Prior library experience preferred. 
• Ability to work with students in a tutorial capacity necessary
• Ability to follow directions of the lead educator, curriculum coordinators, and/or the building Principal is essential
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty and administrators.  
• Possess those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position. 
•  Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check.

TERMS:  This is a 10-month based on the school year. Paraprofessional Union (C)
