What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Analyst / Report Developer – Wastewater Infrastructure & Utilities position at Hatched Recruitment Group?
The Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, infrastructure planning, and real-world utility systems—using data to directly influence how wastewater and sewer networks are maintained, upgraded, and optimised.
You’ll move beyond traditional reporting and into high-impact analytical work, helping to identify system risks, predict capacity issues, and improve performance across critical public infrastructure.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with complex datasets, engineering systems, and real-world assets, and wants to see their analysis translate into tangible infrastructure decisions.
The Role
You’ll support wastewater and sewerage infrastructure programs by developing data-driven insights across asset performance, system capacity, and capital planning.
Working closely with engineering, planning, and operations teams, you’ll take ownership of data pipelines, analysis, and visualisation, helping stakeholders understand system behaviour and make informed investment decisions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing dashboards and reporting tools to monitor wastewater system performance
- Analysing large datasets from SCADA systems, asset management platforms, and operational data sources
- Writing and maintaining code for data transformation, automation, and analysis
- Identifying trends, risks, and inefficiencies across sewer and treatment systems
- Supporting capacity analysis, overflow prediction, and infrastructure planning initiatives
- Integrating GIS and spatial data into analysis and reporting workflows
- Collaborating with engineering teams to support network modelling and capital improvement planning
- Producing clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What They’re Looking For
- Experience in data analysis, data engineering, or report development within utilities, infrastructure, or engineering environments
- Exposure to water, wastewater, sewer, or wider utilities systems
- Strong coding capability (Python, SQL, or similar) for data manipulation and automation
- Experience building dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
- Understanding of asset management systems, SCADA data, or infrastructure datasets
- Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS or similar) is highly beneficial
- Analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex data into practical insights
Why This Role Stands Out
- Work on critical infrastructure systems that directly impact cities and communities
- Combine engineering, data, and planning in a genuinely multidisciplinary role
- High visibility work influencing capital upgrades and long-term infrastructure strategy
- Opportunity to develop into a hybrid data infrastructure specialist, a highly sought-after niche
- Join a team investing heavily in data-driven decision making across utilities
