Position Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of a Primary Care office. Under the supervision of a licensed provider, the CMA is responsible for assisting with clinical duties such as taking patient vital signs, preparing exam rooms, administering medications, and ensuring accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR). This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation & Support
- Welcome and prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Obtain and record vital signs, medical history, and current medications
- Provide support during exams and minor procedures
Clinical Duties
- Administer medications and immunizations as directed by providers
- Perform basic lab tests and specimen collection (e.g., urine, swabs, blood)
- Conduct point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, EKG, rapid strep)
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately document all patient interactions in the EHR
- Assist with referrals, authorizations, and coordination of care
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and care teams
Operational Support
- Maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms
- Follow infection control and safety procedures
- Monitor and manage medical supply inventory
Patient Education
- Educate patients on medications, chronic disease management, and health maintenance
- Provide post-visit instructions as directed by the provider
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current CMA certification through AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT
Preferred Qualifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Prior experience in a primary care or outpatient clinical setting (preferred)
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks)
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Ability to work in a team-based, patient-focused environment
Working Conditions:
