Automotive Service Manager
Full-time position; 5-day work week, scheduled approximately 45 hours per week. Occasional Saturday coverage as needed per department needs.
We are seeking an Automotive Service Manager to become a part of our Hastings Chrysler Center Team!
Core Responsibilities and Duties:
- Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them
- Hiring, training, motivating, counseling, and monitoring the performance of all service staff
- Maintain reporting systems required by general management and the factory
- Monitor and control the performance of the department using appropriate reports, tracking systems, and surveys
- Develop and implement a marketing plan which promotes new and repeat business
- Understand and keep compliance with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Understand and ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures
- Account for all documents; ensure that none are missing and all are processed correctly
- Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees
- Monitor technician daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records
- Monitor and follow -up on parts orders with the parts manager to ensure availability
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business
- Maintain high-quality service repairs and minimize comebacks. Conduct periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality
- Serve as a liaison with factory representatives
- Prepare pricing guides and maintenance menus for frequent labor operations
- Handle customer complaints immediately and according to company guidelines
- Maintain a safe work environment
- Maintain a professional appearance
Compensation & Benefits:
Guaranteed salary position plus commissions. Average total income is $80,000 - $120,000 annually. Pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid driver’s license
- 5 years of dealership service department experience
- Proven track record of managing staff and driving department profitability
Preferred:
- ASE credentials or automotive management degree/certificate
- Experience as a technician or mechanic to effectively oversee the shop floor, assist with diagnostics, and mentor service technicians
- Comfortable using Dealer Management (DMS) and automotive scheduling & inventory software
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Data Analysis: Ability to evaluate customer metrics, KPI’s, and service analytics to make informed strategic decisions
- Business Development: Skills in identifying growth opportunities and ensuring department operates as a revenue-generating asset
- Product/Service Knowledge: Deep understanding of the company’s offerings to accurately assist the team with customer escalations
- CRM & Service Desk Proficiency: Practical knowledge of service management and ticket systems
- Management: Leading, motivating, delegating, resolving conflicts, and making decisions
- Stress Management: Remaining calm, objective, and empathetic when facing high-pressure deadlines, escalations, etc.
- Customer Service & Communication: Handling customer complaints, clearly explaining repair needs, and delivering an experience that drives repeat business
- Teamwork: Fostering a positive and supportive team environment
- Adaptability: Comfort navigating rapid change
- Time Management & Attention to Detail: Prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
- Problem Solving & Multitasking: This is a fast-paced environment. Must be able to juggle multiples tasks e.g.: parts delays, scheduling conflicts, unexpected diagnostic issues, all while remaining calm under pressure
