About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Power Electronics Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and troubleshooting of power electronics hardware for medium-voltage and utility-scale power conversion systems. This role focuses on Gate Driver Boards (GDB), Power Boards, and high-power inverter/converter applications.

You will collaborate with electrical, controls, validation, manufacturing, and supplier teams to develop, test, and improve robust power electronics solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and debug Gate Driver Boards (GDB), Power Boards, sensing, interface, and protection circuits.
  • Develop schematics and review PCB layouts for high-voltage/high-current applications.
  • Select and qualify components including IGBTs, SiC devices, gate drivers, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Execute hardware validation activities including:
  • Double Pulse Testing (DPT)
  • Switching characterization
  • Thermal and fault-condition testing
  • Protection verification
  • Hardware bring-up and commissioning
  • Analyze switching waveforms, current sharing, switching losses, voltage overshoot, and short-circuit response.
  • Perform root cause analysis of inverter, gate drive, and power module failures.
  • Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, differential probes, current probes, thermal cameras, and power analyzers.
  • Partner with controls, validation, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to support prototype and production builds.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (or Associate Degree with 10 years of relevant experience).
  • 5 years of power electronics hardware development experience (3 years with MS degree).
  • Hands-on experience with inverters, converters, motor drives, UPS, BESS, renewable energy, or power conversion systems.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • IGBT and SiC power devices
  • Gate driver design
  • Power converter topologies
  • Protection circuits and thermal management
  • Experience designing and debugging power electronics PCBs.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes and high-speed measurements.
  • Hands-on laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Electrical Engineering with Power Electronics focus.
  • Experience with medium-voltage power conversion systems.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice, and Altium Designer.
  • Experience performing Double Pulse Testing (DPT).
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC, DFMEA, reliability engineering, and UL/IEC standards.
