Job Description
Summary:
The main function of a research engineer is to research and investigate the design, functionality and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes. A typical research engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
• Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanical devices.
• Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects.
• Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendation to maintenance crew.
• Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment or software.
Skills:

• Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.

• 2-4 years experience required.
Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
Analysis of aftertreatment capability and sizing trade-offs. Design of catalyst canning and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system components. This individual will be a point of contact for aftertreatment test instruction, project plan status, results, and next steps.

Typical task breakdown:
- Review test cell and field data and ensure no issues with Aftertreatment or performance shift.
- Ensure all cell hardware is accounted for, current and future programs. Make sure they are tracked properly electronically to accumulate hours.
- Troubleshoot and fix aftertreatment related issues/codes in test cell, especially during install
- Print releasing, knowledge and working with CAD based program and print reading.
- Component design (aftertreatment canning, injectors DEF pumps)
- Working with a purchasing team for quotes and proto-type part procurement
- FMEA analysis and validation planning and testing
Interaction with team:
- The individual will be responsible for communicating results and issues to team members, suppliers and engine system development process partners.
Work environment:
- Mainly office, some lab
Education & Experience Required:
- Years of experience: 2-5 years
- Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or related curriculum
