Harvest Homes is hiring a proven Excavation Foreman to lead residential site development projects in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, WV. This is a hands-on working foreman role, not a desk-level management position. The person in this role will be expected to both lead the crew and personally perform excavation work, including operating equipment for foundation excavation, trenching, backfill, grading, and related residential sitework. We are looking for someone who can read plans, hold grade, work safely, and keep production moving on schedule.

We are specifically seeking candidates with hands-on experience leading excavation or residential sitework crews.

Compensation and benefits

  • $40.00–$45.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half after 40 hours in a workweek

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Average 40 to 50 hours per week
  • Some overtime as needed

What you’ll do

  • Lead and supervise the daily work of the site crew
  • Personally operate equipment as needed, including excavator, skid steer, mini excavator, and similar machines
  • Perform and oversee foundation excavation, trenching, backfill, grading, and yard installation
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to keep projects on schedule
  • Read site plans and direct work according to grade, layout, and sequencing requirements
  • Verify completed work for quality, accuracy, and conformance to plans
  • Monitor crew productivity and help keep jobs efficient and profitable
  • Order and track materials and coordinate with vendors and suppliers
  • Ensure equipment is maintained, inspected, and ready for daily use
  • Enforce jobsite safety standards and hold the crew accountable
  • Drive truck and trailer to and from job sites as needed

Required experience and qualifications

  • Experience leading or supervising an excavation, sitework, or residential construction crew
  • Strong recent hands-on excavator experience required
  • Must be comfortable personally performing foundation excavation, trenching, grading, and related sitework
  • Experience with residential site prep, foundation excavation, and utility trenching
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans and construction drawings
  • Ability to run grade and maintain quality standards in the field
  • Experience with skid steers, mini excavators, and similar equipment
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must pass background check, drug screening, and DMV check if operating a company vehicle

Preferred qualifications

  • 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience
  • Experience setting and holding finish grade
  • Experience with yard installation, soil management, and fine grading
  • Experience installing water, sewer, and electrical conduit
  • Experience driving trucks and trailers in a construction environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, direct, and hold a crew accountable

  • maintain safe, productive, and organized jobsites
  • keep work moving on grade and on schedule
  • communicate well with field leadership, vendors, and suppliers
  • help improve accountability, quality, and efficiency across the crew

Working conditions

  • Work is performed on active residential construction sites and occasionally in completed homes
  • Outdoor work year-round in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and active construction environments
  • Physically active role that includes equipment operation, lifting, bending, digging, and frequent movement
  • Travel between local job sites required

90-day introductory period All new hires are subject to a 90-day introductory period. During this time, performance, reliability, leadership, workmanship, equipment operation, and safety practices will be evaluated.

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
