POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Pastor provides spiritual leadership, discipleship, and pastoral care for students. This position is responsible for developing and leading a Christ-centered ministry that equips students to know God, grow in their faith, build authentic relationships, and live out the Gospel.

The Youth Pastor gives direction to and oversees every aspect of the Youth Ministry, providing vision, leadership, and strategic planning that aligns with the mission and values of the church. This individual recruits, trains, equips, and shepherds volunteer leaders, partnering with parents to support students’ spiritual development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

● Spiritual Leadership

  • Provide biblical teaching that is engaging, relevant, and grounded in Scripture.
  • Lead the weekly midweek Bible study for students.
  • Create an environment where students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Disciple students through intentional relationships and mentorship.
  • Provide biblical counseling, encouragement, and spiritual direction to students.
  • Encourage students to discover and use their spiritual gifts in serving the church and community.
  • Pray regularly for students, families, volunteers, and the ministry.
  • Model Christ-like character and spiritual maturity in every area of ministry.

● Youth Ministry Leadership

  • Give overall direction to and oversee the Youth Ministry.
  • Plan, develop, and oversee Youth Ministry programs and activities.
  • Evaluate existing ministry programs and events to determine their effectiveness and make improvements where needed.
  • Identify and create ministry opportunities for students to grow spiritually, serve others, and engage in the life of the church.
  • Plan and oversee weekly youth services, Bible studies, small groups, and special events.
  • Develop an annual ministry calendar that includes camps, retreats, conferences, mission trips, outreach opportunities, fellowship events (bi-weekly and monthly), leadership development, and parent meetings.
  • Plan and coordinate youth conferences and retreats that are focused on spiritual growth and discipleship.
  • Ensure all Youth Ministry environments are welcoming, safe, organized, and spiritually impactful.
  • Regularly evaluate ministry goals, participation, and overall effectiveness.

● Volunteer Leadership

  • Recruit youth workers, parents, and volunteers as ministry needs arise.
  • Recruit, interview, train, schedule, develop, and shepherd youth ministry volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing encouragement, coaching, and spiritual support for volunteer leaders.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with youth ministry leaders to pray together and discuss upcoming events, ministry challenges, solutions, and celebrations.
  • Plan and facilitate volunteer trainings and workshops.
  • Ensure all volunteers complete required background checks and child protection training.
  • Foster a healthy leadership culture built on teamwork, accountability, and spiritual growth.

● Student & Family Care

  • Build meaningful relationships with students and their families.
  • Provide pastoral care, counseling, encouragement, and prayer for students and parents.
  • Visit students who are hospitalized or experiencing significant life circumstances.
  • Attend school events, sporting events, graduations, and other significant student activities as schedule permits.
  • Partner with parents by providing resources, communication, and encouragement in the spiritual development of their teenagers.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding ministry activities and student development.

● Outreach & Evangelism

  • Develop strategies to reach students who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to students who have visited the church through visits, phone calls, letters, emails, texts, or other appropriate follow-up.
  • Encourage students to invite friends and actively share their faith.
  • Build relationships with local school leaders and look for opportunities to engage students by speaking at approved events and serving the school community whenever possible.
  • Organize outreach events designed to connect with students throughout the community.
  • Promote a culture of evangelism, discipleship, and service within the student ministry.

● Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare, and manage the annual Youth Ministry budget.
  • Track ministry expenditures throughout the year to ensure responsible stewardship of church resources.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ministry reports.
  • Ensure that all facilities, transportation, registrations, and logistical arrangements for Youth Ministry events are properly coordinated and executed.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe Youth Ministry environment.
  • Ensure all ministry events are properly communicated and coordinated with church staff and ministry leaders.

● Church Involvement

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and ministry meetings.
  • Participate in church-wide services, ministry initiatives, and special events.
  • Support the overall vision, mission, and values of the church.
  • Work collaboratively with other ministries within the church.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, conferences, seminars, and ministry training throughout the year to encourage continual personal and ministry growth.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, including Sunday morning service, and occasional overnight events.
  • Willingness to travel for camps, retreats, conferences, mission trips, and ministry events.
  • Serve in additional pastoral and ministry responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

● QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Lives a lifestyle consistent with biblical principles.
  • Possesses a genuine passion for discipling students and investing in the next generation.

● EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ministry, Biblical Studies, Theology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience leading student ministry preferred.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and leading volunteer teams.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and family ministry.

● KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Excellent communication and biblical teaching skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and administrative abilities.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proficiency with church management software, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.

● PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during services and events.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
