Athletic Training Transition to Practice Program Description
The Harvard Sports Medicine Department has designed a program to offer newly credentialed athletic training professionals an opportunity to broaden and enhance their clinical and professional skills as they continue to develop their autonomous practice. The program will allow the newly certified athletic trainer to meet these goals through:
Autonomous coordination of care for at least one intercollegiate sports program and collaborative care for at least one additional intercollegiate sports team with another staff athletic trainer
Direct observation and interaction with physicians and specialists in their private practice and surgical setting with specific objectives for each area:
̵ Specialty areas include but are not limited to: hand and wrist, foot and ankle, general medical, and sports cardiology
Fulfillment of administrative responsibilities as assigned by Associate Director of Athletics for Student- Athlete Health and Performance
Mentorship from Athletic Training Transition to Practice Program Director as well as other staff athletic trainers
Position as research liaison for on-going research projects involving Harvard University Student-
Athletes as research subjects
Continued professional development through the delivery of four evidence-based presentations to colleagues
Attendance of monthly continuing education sessions hosted by Harvard Sports Medicine, a BOC approved provider
Opportunity to become certified in Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization techniques
The Harvard Sports Medicine Department is currently offering three Athletic Training Transition to Practice positions.
Program salary of $35,568.
̵ Candidates may be eligible for benefits, which is determined by the university. If individual is eligible for benefits, the cost will be paid from their salary. Further explanation of this process can be given during the interview process.
Regular one-on-one meetings with the Athletic Training Transition to Practice Program Director as well as two scheduled performance reviews
Candidates are responsible for their relocation costs, securing and covering the cost of their housing, transportation, and parking required for some clinical assignments, including Harvard University
The sports medicine department will reimburse the candidates for their state licensure, NATA dues, and one continuing education course per approval by the Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Health and Performance
The program is limited to a 12-month term running from July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021
Qualifications/Requirements
Eligibility for Massachusetts Athletic Training State Licensure is required. Licensure is dependent on successful completion of an athletic training degree program and possession of a National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification credential
Candidates must fulfill the requirements of Harvard University Health Services Credentialing process
Excellent oral and written communications skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and knowledge
Ability to work with electronic medical record keeping systems and other computer databases are required
Please note the positions will require weekend and non-traditional work hours
Candidates also must possess the ability to lift objects of approximately 75 pounds
Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license
Candidates who possess a Master’s degree and/or manual therapy based certifications may be preferred

Our team physicians and athletic trainers work directly with our athletic programs and are direct employees of Harvard University Health Services.
