Harvard Resource Solutions is hiring a TAX ACCOUNTANT to support a CPA firm in Farmington Hills, MI. You will work on a team creating work papers and filing both individual and business tax returns.
POSITION TYPE: Full time. Direct hire position.
PAY: $70,000 to $75,000 annually
In office work environment. Private office with support staff.
Requirements of the Accountant-Tax:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related fields is desirable.
- At Least 3 years full time experience in accounting and tax preparation for individuals and closely held businesses.
- Strong expertise in creating general ledgers from original source documents, preparing work papers, and drafting financial statements.
- Ability to efficiently and accurately prepare business returns (1120, 1120S, and 1065 - federal and multistate), personal returns (1040 with multi state and city), trust returns, and payroll returns (940,941).
- Proven ability to interact effectively and professionally with small/medium size business owners and their employees.
- Strong knowledge base of both corporate and personal tax issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of the team.
- Proficiency with Creative Solutions including UltraTax, CSA and Accounting CS, QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are desired.
Duties of the Accountant-Tax:
- Build long-term relationships with clients by providing reliable services. Provide advice on services that are beneficial to them. Explain complex tax issues to clients in clear terms.
- Prepare accounting work papers including performing adjusting entries, creating trial balances, preparing business’ financial statements, recording transactions, documenting asset acquisitions or disposals, liabilities, and other client records. Examine statements and documentation to ensure accuracy and reconcile any discrepancies in reported income, expenses, or deductions.
- Prepare tax working papers such as W2’s, 1099’s and 1098’s.
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations and nonprofits ensuring compliance with current laws, regulations, and deadlines.
- Advise clients on ways to legally minimize tax liabilities. Provide year-round tax planning.
- Assist with IRS or state tax correspondence, audits, and inquiries.
- Maintain organized records of tax filings and correspondence.
- Work expected overtime during the tax season.
