Job Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent of Talent, Teaching, and Innovation is a key member of the executive leadership team, providing leadership to support the district’s mission of equitable, high-quality education for all students, PreK–22. This role involves supervising district-level administrators, leading curriculum and instructional initiatives, overseeing professional learning, and guiding school improvement efforts.
In collaboration with the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent of Talent, Teaching, and Innovation ensures alignment with the district’s strategic goals, including overseeing personnel systems, curriculum development, teaching and learning, and compliance with policies and regulations. The position also serves as the District Complaint Manager, District Homeless Liaison, a member of the negotiations team, and the lead administrator for labor relations.
The Assistant Superintendent of Talent, Teaching, and Innovation is responsible for evaluating central office administrators, supporting principal evaluations, and ensuring continuous improvement of district learning programs. This individual represents the district at legal matters and community engagements and serves as Acting Superintendent when designated.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field required; Doctorate preferred
Valid State Administrative License; Superintendent Endorsement or eligibility preferred
Valid driver’s license
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of successful leadership experience in public education, including as a building-level administrator and/or central office leader.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and/or operations at the district level.
Experience working in diverse school communities and with students aged PreK through 22.
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on staff Evaluation.

Terms of Employment:
This full-time TRS position has an annual salary range of $160,000 - $185,000, set by the Board of Education. The superintendent will determine the work calendar.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Assistant Superintendent of Talent, Teaching, and Innovation’s compensation package includes board-paid TRS contribution, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a $300,000 term life insurance policy. The position offers paid vacation, sick, and personal leave days annually, with tuition reimbursement. The Board provides a monthly allowance for cellular phone and travel expenses, a yearly wellness allowance, and membership dues for up to two professional organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, collaborating with the Superintendent and Cabinet to develop and execute the district’s strategic vision, goals, and priorities.
- Act as Superintendent in their absence, when designated.
- Promote strong family and community engagement and represent the district at local, regional, and state events or initiatives.
- Assist in budget development and strategic resource allocation, ensuring alignment with instructional and operational priorities.
- Supervise and formally evaluate district-level administrators, including directors, ensuring high performance, accountability, and leadership development.
- Assist principals with the evaluation of building-level personnel as needed.
- Review current staffing patterns and regularly analyze projected enrollment versus actual enrollment to ensure appropriate staffing levels, equitable resource allocation, and alignment with student needs across all schools.
- Evaluate the performance of all personnel under direct supervision.
Teaching and Learning
- Serve as the Chief Leader of Teaching and Learning, ensuring the development, alignment, adoption, and implementation of high-quality instructional materials and programs, curriculum, and assessments, PreK–22.
- Collaborate with principals, curriculum leads, instructional coaches, and teacher leads to support and align the district's curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Lead curriculum revisions and programs across the district, including planning and facilitating curriculum committees and innovation teams.
- Supervise and evaluate existing instructional and learning programs to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with district goals.
- Develop and assist principals in implementing innovative programs that have the potential to lead to broader, sustainable curricular change.
School Improvement, Professional Learning, and Accountability
- Support school improvement planning for school accountability purposes, guiding schools in data analysis, identification of needs, and alignment with district priorities.
- Organize, plan, and oversee district-wide professional learning, including:
- Long-term strategic planning and design of professional learning.
- Implementation of short-term professional learning.
- Collaboration with building-level staff development committees to support both short- and long-term professional growth goals.
- Assist administrative staff in identifying and addressing leadership and professional learning needs.
- Ensure consistent implementation of district systems, procedures, and board policies across schools and departments.
Labor Relations and Legal Compliance
- Prepare reports and materials for Board of Education meetings and committee meetings, particularly those related to teaching and learning and personnel matters.
- Serve as a member of the district’s negotiations team, making recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education regarding negotiations and labor relations.
- Advise administrative personnel on the interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements.
- Manage grievance, arbitration, discipline, and dismissal matters across the district.
- Serve as liaison to board legal counsel on assigned matters.
- Maintain all records in compliance with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulatory requirements.
Student Support Services
- Serve as the District Complaint Manager, addressing concerns and formal complaints in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.
- Act as the District Homeless Liaison, ensuring equitable access and services for students experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Provide leadership and support for the development of inclusive, culturally responsive practices that promote equitable outcomes for all students.

Physical Demands:
The Assistant Superintendent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday. The position occasionally involves lifting and carrying items up to 25 pounds, such as office supplies and meeting materials. Frequent use of a computer, phone, and other office equipment is required, including activities like typing, writing, and communication. The role also involves traveling between district buildings and external locations for meetings, events, and district-related business. Occasionally, attendance at evening or weekend meetings and events may be required. The Assistant Superintendent must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and the broader community.
