Terms of Employment:
This is a part-time, hourly position for four weeks, from June 2nd to June 26th, with an additional four days of planning and professional development to be determined.
Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday- Compensation: $35 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized, research-based instruction aligned with each student’s IEP goals and the Illinois Learning Standards, ensuring all instruction is designed for a four-hour instructional day, four days a week, totaling 16 instructional days.
- Design and implement daily lessons incorporating Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) to create engaging and rigorous learning experiences, integrating multiple learning tasks, including whole-class verbal participation.
- Clearly communicate learning goals, tailor instructional strategies, and ensure students actively engage with materials and resources to enhance comprehension, retention, and achievement of IEP objectives.
- Foster a supportive, student-centered learning environment that promotes academic growth, social-emotional well-being, and personal empowerment while managing student behavior to maintain a safe and optimal learning space.
- Support students in taking an active role in their learning by setting and monitoring individualized goals, engaging in reflection, and participating in interventions and progress monitoring aligned with the MTSS framework.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, bilingual educators, and related services personnel to adapt and modify curricula while incorporating cultural diversity and appreciation.
- Utilize technology appropriately to enhance the teaching and learning process and provide students with opportunities to collaborate with peers, engage in movement-based learning, and experience diverse instructional strategies.
- Develop and implement individualized IEP plans, including present levels of performance, accommodations, instructional goals, and required services, while overseeing the delivery of special education services.
- Serve as the primary contact for parents, participating in evaluations and reevaluations while maintaining ongoing communication regarding student progress.
- Participate in a professional learning community, collaborating with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Assess student progress regularly, adjust instructional techniques as needed, and provide direction, supervision, and feedback to educational assistants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher position requires high physical activity and stamina to support students with disabilities in participating in modified physical activities. The role involves regularly demonstrating exercises, sports, and movement-based activities while providing hands-on assistance to students. APE teachers must be able to lift and transfer students, assist with mobility, and support balance and coordination. This may require lifting to 50 pounds or utilizing adaptive transfer techniques. The position also demands standing, walking, running, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods and using fine and gross motor skills to manipulate equipment and assist students effectively. Strong communication skills, including clear verbal instructions and nonverbal cues, are essential in an active learning environment. Additionally, APE teachers must be able to respond quickly to ensure student safety in case of falls, injuries, or emergencies. The role also involves setting up, moving, and maintaining adaptive physical education equipment, including mats, balls, and mobility aids.
