Position Summary
The Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School seeks a creative and technically skilled Digital Producer to lead the production of Terms of Engagement, a weekly live-streamed interview and discussion series exploring democracy, civic participation, and governance in the United States and beyond. The Digital Producer will oversee the end-to-end digital production process — from concept and pre-production through live streaming, post-production, and digital distribution — ensuring a high-quality, engaging viewer experience that aligns with the Center’s mission to strengthen democratic institutions and civic life.
Key Responsibilities
Live Production:
Manage all technical and creative aspects of the Terms of Engagement livestream, including audio, graphics, and streaming platforms.
Operate live streaming equipment and software (StreamYard, YouTube, and Simplecast).
Oversee real-time event coordination, including guest booking, timing, and troubleshooting.
Pre-Production:
Collaborate with Ash Center hosts and communications team to plan episode content, structure, and guest participation.
Prepare run-of-show documents, graphics, and promotional materials.
Coordinate rehearsals and technical checks with hosts, guests, and production partners.
Post-Production & Distribution:
Edit recorded episodes for on-demand viewing; ensure captions, branding, and accessibility standards.
Posting weekly episode to Ash Center website, including video and transcription.
Manage distribution across digital channels, including YouTube, podcasts, and social media.
Analyze viewership data and engagement metrics to inform content strategy.
Creative & Strategic Support:
Contribute to the visual and narrative storytelling approach of Terms of Engagement and related digital media.
Stay current with best practices in livestreaming, digital engagement, and academic communications.
Support other multimedia initiatives as needed within the Ash Center’s communications team.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, film/media production, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
3 years of experience producing live or digital video content, preferably in an academic, media, or nonprofit setting.
Proficiency with livestreaming platforms.
Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple concurrent productions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with on-air talent and subject matter experts.
Commitment to the Ash Center’s mission of advancing democracy and good governance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hybrid and/or remote production setups.
Familiarity with accessibility standards and captioning workflows.
Understanding of current issues in democracy, civic engagement, and governance.
