Paralegal - Eminent Domain/Condemnation

We are hiring! Hartzog Law Group is a small law firm, focused on employment law, municipal law, and education law. We are seeking qualified candidates for a paralegal position, with a focus on eminent domain/condemnations and land use law.

Duties

• Preparing pleadings, legal correspondence and other litigation documents for attorneys.
• Preparing written discovery requests and responses.
• Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
• Filing pleadings with court clerk and electronic filing systems (preferred experience with Pacer, ECF, and state court e-filing)
• Helping prepare for hearings, depositions, legal proceedings, and trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
• Calling clients and witnesses to obtain relevant documents and facts.
• Obtaining and managing relevant documents and working with attorneys to draft and review discovery.
• Scheduling meetings, depositions, hearings, and other appointments, and working with courthouse staff.
• Maintaining calendaring and docketing with reminders.
• Cite checking briefs and shepardizing cases
• Preparing summaries of medical records and discovery responses
• Performing other tasks as needed.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience with eminent domain/condemnation and land use law
• North Carolina paralegal certification preferred.
• Associate degree minimum.
• Knowledge of NC and Federal Rules of Procedure.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel) and Adobe.
• Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging office technology.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
• Must be able to effectively multi-task and manage time sensitive documents in a fast-paced environment.
• Exhibit professionalism, compassion and confidentiality in the conduct of duties.
• Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment.
