Job Summary
Join our dedicated team as a Dietary Aide/Cook, where you will play a vital role in cooking nutritious, delicious meals to our residents in accordance with physician-ordered diets, facility menus, food safety regulations, and state and federal guidelines. The cook works as part of the dietary team to ensure high-quality food service while maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine culinary skills with compassionate care, supporting the health and well-being of our residents.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and planned menus.
- Follow therapeutic and modified diet orders (e.g. diabetic, low sodium, mechanical soft, pureed.)
- Ensure food is prepared safely and served at proper temperatures.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Label, date, rotate, and properly store food items following FIFO (First In, First Out) principals.
- Monitor food quality, taste, texture, and appearance.
- Receive and properly store food deliveries.
- Maintain accurate production records and temperature logs.
- Comply with all local, state, federal, OSHA, and food safety regulations.
- Work cooperatively with dietary staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Food Service Director.
Skills
- Previous experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or food industry roles is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety standards
- Excellent time management skills to handle meal schedules efficiently
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and effectively
- Good communication skills for customer service and teamwork within a fast-paced environment
- Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management
- Knowledge of sanitation practices, JCAHO standards, and proper food handling procedures
