We are partnering with an established medical imaging business seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to shape its next generation of diagnostic technology.
This hands-on technical leadership role combines software architecture, firmware development and team mentoring, with ownership across new product development and improvements to an existing imaging portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design and development of embedded software for new and existing medical imaging products.
- Develop and optimize real-time firmware, device drivers and hardware interfaces, ensuring reliable performance in resource-constrained systems.
- Own software testing, debugging and corrective actions, maintaining clear technical documentation and supporting product risk assessments.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering, product management, testing and service teams to translate requirements into dependable commercial products.
- Mentor engineers and improve development practices through Agile delivery, continuous integration and automation.
Requirements
- Extensive embedded software development experience, typically 12 years, or 10 with a master’s degree or 8 with a PhD.
- Expert C/C and assembly programming skills, with strong software architecture, multithreading and hardware/software integration experience.
- Deep RTOS expertise, such as FreeRTOS, QNX or Zephyr, including low-level firmware, board initialization, communication protocols and secure firmware updates.
- Direct experience developing medical imaging products within a regulated environment; familiarity with IEC 62304, software risk management and DICOM/HL7 would be advantageous.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, resolve complex technical problems and communicate effectively across technical and commercial teams.
