What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alternative Classroom Counselor position at Hartford Memorial Middle School?
Hartford Memorial Middle School (a grade 6-8 school of approximately 300 students) is searching for an Alternative Classroom Counselor to work in tandem with the Special Educator and Teacher within The Phoenix Program. This program is part of a multi-tiered system of support offering an engaging classroom setting for students whose academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs may be different than that of their peers.
Specifically, the person in this position will support students within the classroom setting on social emotional and regulation skill development. While the majority of the work will be with a small group of students, there will be opportunity for one-to-one therapeutic intervention. Ongoing training, supervision, and oversight will be provided by the HMMS Administration and Hartford School District Clinical Director.

Primary Job Functions
-Work closely with the Phoenix team to support students with social-emotional and behavioral needs
-Provide support for students transitioning into and out of the alternative classroom
-Process behavioral incidents with students to help them build reflective skills
-Provide structure and boundaries for students throughout their school day
-Conduct/implement FBAs and BIPs as needed
-Support students in crisis within the school setting
-Communicate with families around student needs
-Connect students and families with community supports
Salary : $44,882 - $94,823
