Fleet Manager – Oostburg & Milwaukee Operations

Harter’s Lakeside Disposal LLC is looking for an experienced, hands-on Fleet Manager to lead our fleet maintenance operations across our Oostburg and Milwaukee locations.

This position will be primarily based in Oostburg with regular travel to our Milwaukee shop. The Fleet Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of both maintenance facilities, including shop personnel, preventative maintenance, repairs, fleet availability, safety, parts, vendors, and maintenance costs.

We operate in the waste and recycling industry, where trucks need to be safe, reliable, and ready to roll every morning. We’re looking for someone who understands that responsibility and can lead our maintenance teams accordingly.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations at our Oostburg and Milwaukee shops
• Lead, schedule, develop, and hold accountable mechanics and shop personnel at both locations
• Manage preventative maintenance programs and ensure PMs and inspections are completed on schedule
• Prioritize repairs based on operational needs and minimize unnecessary fleet downtime
• Communicate daily with operations and management regarding equipment availability and major repairs
• Oversee maintenance and repair of refuse trucks, front-loaders, rear-loaders, roll-offs, automated side-loaders, tractors, trailers, pickups, and other company equipment
• Identify recurring equipment problems and develop solutions instead of repeatedly fixing the same issues
• Manage outside repair vendors and determine when work should be completed internally or outsourced
• Oversee parts inventory, purchasing, and cost control at both shops
• Review repair orders, maintenance records, equipment history, and maintenance expenses
• Establish consistent shop procedures and maintenance standards across both locations
• Ensure DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements are followed
• Maintain fleet inspection and maintenance documentation
• Assist management with equipment replacement decisions, specifications, major repairs, and long-term fleet planning
• Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities to improve reliability while controlling expenses
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized shop environments
• Assist with urgent equipment issues when necessary to keep operations moving

What We're Looking For

• Previous fleet maintenance, heavy-duty truck, diesel, or shop management experience
• Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel trucks and heavy-duty equipment
• Waste and recycling industry experience strongly preferred
• Previous experience managing mechanics or maintenance personnel
• Ability to effectively manage multiple shop locations
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Understanding of DOT requirements, inspections, and preventative maintenance programs
• Ability to prioritize repairs in a fast-paced operation where equipment uptime matters
• Comfortable using computers, maintenance software, and electronic recordkeeping
• Valid driver's license required
• CDL Class A or B preferred

This Isn't Just a Desk Job

We're looking for a Fleet Manager who is willing to be in the shops and around the equipment.

You'll work directly with mechanics, drivers, operations, and company leadership. We need someone who can walk through the shop, understand what's down and why, determine what needs to be fixed first, and make sure our equipment is ready when operations needs it.

The right person will take ownership of the fleet—not simply manage paperwork.
