What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Harsco Rail?

Our broad array of equipment and services support every type of railway operator, from major national and international railway systems, to short lines and high-speed urban transit networks.
As an Accountant you will play a key role in our accounting department. You will work independently through the monthly general ledger close process, analyze large amounts of data, and research discrepancies. The position offers opportunities to collaborate closely with other departments within the company.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with month end close
- Reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare and post standard and non-standard journal entries
- Analyze data reports and research discrepancies
- Support Pcard auditing process performed by our Global Service Center and offer high level support on open items
- Assist in preparation of schedules as required for quarterly reviews, tax reporting and annual audit
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and support as needed
- Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Knowledge of US GAAP
- Proficient with Excel
- Possess the ability to perform accurate account reconciliations while understanding the activity and movements of various accounts and remediate any anomalies in a timely manner
- Ability to troubleshoot problems involving few concrete variables
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Ability to effectively plan and organize
- Strong analytical skills
