Job Summary
The Dock Associate will play a critical role in managing various aspects of managing incoming donations and large item outgoing sales. This position will be responsible for coordinating with the Dock Team Leader daily to manage various aspects of the dock to include but not limited to overseeing cleanliness of dock area, training, collecting and sorting donations, greeting and assisting customers dropping off items or picking up purchased items and other related duties as assigned by the manager. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, team player and a passion for fostering a positive work environment for employees and volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be responsible for incoming donations, keeping the dock area well-organized and clean.
- Assist donors and customers who come to the dock to pick up large items.
- Train new Donation Receivers from Harrisonburg Men’s Diversion Center on daily tasks & procedures.
- Assist with hauling trash and recyclables to destinations as needed.
- Sanitize fabrics/linens/furniture as needed.
- Work cooperatively with the direct supervisor ( Team Leader) and other Team Leaders. Coordinate personal work schedule with the Dock Team Leader. (Paid time off must be reported to the General Manager through the Dock Team Leader.)
- Be willing to work occasional Saturdays.
- Keep Dock Team Leader informed of significant developments.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Dock Team Leader.
Work Environment
The Dock Associate is expected to report to the Dock Team Leader or the Dock Manager in the absence of the Dock Team Leader. This position requires good communication skills in order to communicate effectively with donors, customers and co-workers verbally ,as well as, written.
Harrisonburg Gift & Thrift supports the local and global relief, development and peace projects of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC.ORG). We also support other local nonprofits in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham/Augusta area that serve at-risk populations in our communities. We also strive to be good environmental stewards, saving as much as possible from the landfill.
Other Duties and Requirements
The regular schedule of work days is Tuesday through Saturday with a schedule agreed upon at hire. Reliable and satisfactory attendance is an essential function of this position. Requirements:- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
- Ability to stand for the duration of your shift
- Consistent work experience preferred
- Perform tasks associated with snow removal (sidewalks).
- Pallet Jack experience preferred, but not required
- Assemble or disassemble objects (particularly furniture for loading onto vehicles).
- Plan (organize and schedule) daily donation dock activities, including Diversion Center Donation Receivers’ schedules and activities.
Salary : $14 - $16
