Job Summary
The Clothing Associate will play a critical role in processing incoming donations and day-to-day operations of the Clothing Department. This position will coordinate with the Clothing Team Leader daily to ensure the efficient operation of the department, which includes processing, pricing and restocking of clothing, shoes, belts, purses, hats, etc. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in fashion and trends across men’s, women’s, and kids’ clothing, have excellent organizational skills, pay strong attention to detail, be a team player, and have a passion for fostering a positive work environment for employees and volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with Clothing donation processing by sorting, cleaning, hanging, packaging and pricing donations as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist with retail displays and rotation when requested.
- Attend regular meetings with, and as scheduled by, the Team Leader or Thrift Manager.
- Be available for occasional weekend shifts as needed.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service assistance as needed.
- Work cooperatively with Team Members, Team Leader and Volunteers in Clothing as well as other departments and Management.
- Must be able to plan (organize and schedule) own working activities after checking in with the supervisor.
- Provide backup coverage for Team Leader on their days off
Work Environment
The Clothing Associate will report to the Thrift Manager in the absence of the Clothing Team Leader. This role requires strong attention to detail and effective communication skills to interact with donors, customers, and team members. Gift & Thrift supports local and global relief, development, and peace projects through Mennonite Central Committee (MCC.ORG) and other local nonprofits, striving to be environmentally responsible by diverting items from landfills.
Other Duties and Requirements
- Schedule: Regular work days are Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays preferred. A schedule will be agreed upon at hire.
- Attendance: Reliable and satisfactory attendance is crucial for this position.
- Additional Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted as needed. The position may be modified to reasonably accommodate qualified individuals with disabilities, within the scope of health, safety, and operational requirements. - Fashion interest in current fashion trends for men’s, women’s and children’s clothing preferred but not required. Familiarity with clothing, shoes, belts, purses, hats, etc.
- Be available to work at the times needed by the Clothing department
- lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis
- Be on feet the majority of the time
- Proficient in English with good oral and written communication skills. Ability to use the telephone effectively.
- General computer skills including email and internet use are recommended.
- Communicate with customers, providing courteous service
- A second language is a plus but not required
- Weekend availability
