Harrison Steel has an opening on 1st shift in the Machine Shop for a Welder. This person will repair defects in finished machined castings through all standard weld practices.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the ability to apply all standard welding practices to repair defects in finished machined castings
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply post weld heat treat and localized tempering operations.
  • Accurately report and document repairs on weld maps.
  • Follows job work instructions and training matrix, where applicable.
  • Pass all HS Weld tests to get to B level, understand localized heat treat

Level B:

Run Bore Welder, complete tasks with minimum supervision

Level A:

Understand customer timeliness, understand the priority of castings list, able to cross train, and has demonstrated the ability to perform his/her responsibility with very limited supervision.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Manufacturing/classroom training at tool manufacturers or technical school.

  • On-the-job training until competence is shown in machining castings.

  • Blueprint reading preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of computers.


Certificates and Licenses:

Successfully complete all Harrison Steel welding certification tests.

Fork truck license

Certificates for any outside manufacturing/classroom training


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; extreme cold and extreme heat The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.

Salary : $18 - $30
