What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electric Arc Furnace Operator (Melter) - 1st Shift position at Harrison Steel Castings Co.?
Harrison Steel is looking for individuals to operate their electric arc furnaces (melters). Melters operate and maintain our 20-ton electric arc furnaces and direct the process to melt and refine steel to customers' specifications. Each 'heat' (batch) of liquid steel starts as solid steel recycling and takes approximately 3 hours to liquefy and refine. This position must have availability of any shift and be flexible to move on different shifts with notice.
Melters:
- Operate electric arc furnaces safely and following work instructions and specification requirements
- Fill out a melting log and summary sheet for each heat of steel melted
- Check and monitor all furnace and auxiliary equipment to insure they are in good physical, mechanical, and electrical operating condition
Ideal Melters have:
- Experience in a heavy industrial environment operating machines
- Basic knowledge of computer applications
- Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide on the fly
- Ability to make quick decisions and monitor the safety of the environment and all others working in the area
