Job Summary
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems and related grounds infrastructure across all Harrison School District 2 campuses and support facilities. This position will be able to test backflows and will be an Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Technician within one year of hire. This position supports district goals by ensuring safe, attractive, and well-maintained grounds and athletic fields through effective irrigation management, backflow compliance, turf care, and equipment operation. The role requires independent judgment, strong technical skills, and the ability to respond to after-hours and seasonal demands, including snow removal and emergency repairs.

Job Summary

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain turf and landscape maintenance equipment, including mowers, aerators, fertilizers, trenchers, and a mini excavator.
- Assist with annual backflow testing, inspections, and reporting requirements (once certified) in accordance with City of Colorado Springs deadlines. Coordinate with the Irrigation Specialist and utility representatives as needed.
- Install, maintain, repair, and operate sprinkler systems, including annual start-up and shut down. Perform routine troubleshooting, repairs, controller adjustments, and preventative maintenance of district irrigation systems.
- Assist with irrigation plan reviews, utility locates, controller programming adjustments, and related project support activities as assigned.
- Operate specialized equipment including skid loaders, tractors, front loaders, street sanders, street Sweepers, dump trucks, snowplows, and commercial trucks.
- Perform safety inspections of playgrounds and athletic equipment, document deficiencies and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
- Support training of Building Engineers, Custodians, and seasonal employees in basic grounds and irrigation procedures.
- Install, repair, and maintain signs, gates, fences, fabrication, and welding.
- Plan, organize and perform installation and maintenance of playground equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Specialized training or coursework in irrigation systems, turf management, or grounds maintenance preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in commercial or institutional irrigation and grounds maintenance preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of irrigation system design, installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, as-built drawings, and technical manuals.
- Ability to learn backflow prevention devices, testing procedures, and applicable codes.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficient in the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform duties in all weather conditions.
- Ability to remain insurable under district insurance.
- Willingness to be on-call and respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours.
- Must be an Irrigation Association Certified Irrigation Technician, or become one within one year of hire, and then maintain standing every 2 years once obtained.
- Must obtain your Back Flow Tester Certificate OR your Cross Connection Control Tech Certificate (ASSE or ABPA certified) within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to learn and operate smart irrigation systems, managing controllers from a computer, for troubleshooting, testing, and scheduling water.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
