Position Summary:
The QA Technician is a frontline employee responsible for performing quality assurance tasks in a poultry processing plant. This role conducts inspections, tests, and monitoring to ensure products and processes meet food safety and quality standards, supporting the QA team’s efforts under the direction of the QA Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-process inspections on production lines, checking product quality against standards.
- Perform tests, temperature checks, or visual inspections to verify sanitation and product safety, documenting results for QA records.
- Monitor processes for compliance with food safety protocols, identifying and reporting deviations.
- Assist with pre-op inspections, ensuring equipment and areas are ready before production starts.
- Test samples of poultry products or sanitation chemicals using basic tools, reporting findings.
- Maintain and calibrate QA testing equipment to ensure accurate measurements and reliable data.
- Label or tag non-compliant products or areas, notifying staff or supervisors for corrective action.
- Support QA training sessions by demonstrating procedures or assisting new hires.
- Follow safety protocols and food safety guidelines during all tasks to protect workers and products.
- Report equipment issues, quality failures, or supply needs to the QA Supervisor promptly.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; on-the-job training provided.
- Ability to work in a cold, wet, and noisy environment with exposure to odors, blood, and chemicals.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs during the shift.
- Basic knowledge of food safety standards and QA practices.
- Attention to detail to detect quality issues, perform accurate tests, and maintain thorough records.
- Ability to use testing tools and read production or QA documents.
- Teamwork to collaborate with QA staff, production crews, and supervisors in a fast-paced setting.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed inside the processing plant across production areas, with exposure to cold temperatures, water, noise, poultry odors, and occasional chemical fumes from sanitation.
- Protective gear provided and required.
- Shift work, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, may be required to align with sanitation schedules and production needs, often overlapping with pre-op tasks.
