Job Summary/Objective:
The Student Radiologic Technologist is a healthcare provider who assists physicians by performing medical imaging procedures. They work under the guidance of the Department Director and a supervising physician, providing important information for diagnosing and treating patients. The student will perform these imaging services in various clinical areas, always under the supervision of Registered Radiologic Technologists and according to their level of education and training.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
• Prepare exam rooms and imaging equipment in accordance with infection control, sterilization standards, and patient safety protocols.
• Assist in performing diagnostic imaging procedures under the direct supervision of a registered technologist.
• Position patients properly and adjust equipment settings based on exam protocols.
• Review and verify patient history, exam orders, and documentation to ensure appropriateness and compliance with “medical necessity” guidelines.
• Evaluate contraindications, patient preparation, and any physical or emotional barriers to completing the exam.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
• Follow radiation protection guidelines for patients, staff, and self.
• Document procedures and patient interactions accurately in the medical record.
• Participate in on-call duties as needed to support continuous departmental coverage.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills / Abilities:
• Basic knowledge of radiographic positioning, safety, and imaging equipment operation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow instructions, demonstrate professionalism, and work effectively in a clinical team environment.
Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be currently enrolled as a senior student in an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Certificates and License:
• Must obtain American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification within 6 months post-graduation.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Physical Requirements:
• Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, and sitting in office and clinical settings.
• Dexterity: Ability to operate imaging equipment and related tools.
• Lifting: Occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 50 lbs.
