A large specialty contractor located in Villa Rica is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the accounting function and serve as a trusted financial partner to the shareholders. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles, financial management, and regulatory reporting specifically within the construction and related sectors. This role oversees the accounting team and key administrative functions. The candidate will possess financial foresight and strategies to build efficiencies within the financial/accounting operations of the Company. The candidate will also provide timely financial reporting, risk assessment and performance insights, and strong leadership across operations, sales, marketing, and other functional groups. The candidate must fit the Company’s culture by promoting improvement and mentoring people within the financial department and providing support throughout the entire organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited university required. Advance degree preferred.
- 5 years of experience in construction accounting, including job cost accounting and revenue recognition
- Proven people leadership; experience managing and developing a team of approximately 5–10 direct reports
- Hands-on controller mindset—able to manage the function while performing analysis, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Strong close discipline, including implementation and continuous improvement of a timely month-end closing process
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills
- Experience in defining needs and performing situational analysis with multiple financial scenarios
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Collaborative, team-building leadership style comfort partnering across departments
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the month-end close, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and timely financial statement preparation.
- Prepare accurate financial reports in accordance with GAAP and deliver meaningful variance, trend, and ratio analysis for leadership.
- Manage cash and forecasting on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including forecasting, liquidity analysis, and optimizing cash flow strategies.
- Own the annual budget process and support ongoing planning and strategic initiatives.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Coordinate required filings and compliance activities, including local, state, and federal taxes (income and sales/use) and licensing requirements.
- Partners with external parties including banking, bonding, and audit professionals; support information requests and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities (Cont.):
- Collaborate cross-functionally and provide financial guidance to reduce risk and improve performance across the organization.
- Participate and lead financial strategic initiatives for the company and function as a resource for all members of the leadership team.
