Role: Mid-Level Backend Engineer
Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA (Onsite, 3 days/week)
Compensation: $200,000 compensation!
At Harrison Clarke, we’re partnering with an ambitious and fast-growing technology company building advanced AI-driven automation tools for enterprise use. They’re looking to bring on a Backend Engineer who can play a key role in shaping the systems that power their platform.
The Opportunity
This position is suited to an engineer who enjoys working close to the core of a product -designing services, solving complex backend challenges, and contributing to systems that need to scale quickly and reliably. You’ll be part of a small, highly collaborative team where ownership is expected and ideas are valued.
Responsibilities:
Backend Systems & APIs
- Create and maintain backend services and APIs using Python-based frameworks
- Build modular services that support automation workflows and large-scale data handling
- Improve database performance through thoughtful schema design and query optimisation
- Develop and support data movement across internal and external systems
Integrations & Intelligent Systems
- Connect backend infrastructure with AI components, data stores, and workflow engines
- Support integrations with widely used enterprise platforms such as CRM and HR systems
- Ensure consistent and reliable data exchange across multiple services
Team Collaboration
- Partner with engineers and product stakeholders to deliver features from concept to release
- Proactively suggest improvements and take responsibility for delivering solutions
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while keeping long-term scalability in mind
Your Background
- Around 3–5 years of experience building backend systems or APIs
- Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with modern backend frameworks
- Experience working with relational databases and data modelling concepts
- Exposure to caching tools and asynchronous or event-based systems
- Familiarity with cloud environments and storage solutions
- Good understanding of system security and API design principles
- Comfortable debugging, testing, and improving system performance
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to AI or machine learning integrations in production systems
- Experience with event-driven or workflow-based architectures
- Previous work within a startup or rapidly scaling organisation
