REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in Education preferred.
Experience: One year of previous coaching experience preferred.
Physical Requirements: Eye-hand, mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
Other Requirements: Successful completion of 1) Fundamentals of Coaching 2) First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches and 3) Concussion in Sport: What you Need to Know all of which are through the NFHSLearn.com website as required by the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Assists the Head Coach in providing direction for student athletes.
- Coaches the junior varsity and/or freshman squads.
- Provides guidance to Middle School coaches and programs feeding into High School.
- Assists Head Coach in determining athlete participation during practice and games to include squad level and playing time.
- Operates within District, Conference, and SDHSAA policies.
- Supervises students while in locker rooms, play areas, and remains with students while traveling.
- Provides first aid when necessary.
- Assists in issuing equipment, caring for and maintaining it, and inventorying it at end of season.
- Cares for and maintains equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
