HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College is seeking a new Board of Trustees member. This exciting volunteer position helps to direct and support the College's strategic plan 22-25
HACC is at a critical moment in its history. Our students face greater challenges and are more diverse than ever before, funding for higher education continues to decline and enrollment trends continue to trend downward across the country.
We are currently seeking to fill one vacancy:
Terms: Aug. 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026
As a trustee at HACC, you:
  • assist with fundraising, including annual and capital campaigns
  • are willing to make a visible personal commitment to College fundraising campaigns. This includes, at minimum, an annual gift to the HACC Foundation, and may include participation in Board-approved campaigns, such as capital campaigns and special campaigns.
  • accept a commitment to be an effective and positive advocate for the College. This includes being fully versed in major issues and strategic goals, and being able to articulate them in a positive manner, both formally and informally. Job-related prohibitions against such advocacy should induce a candidate to take her/himself out of consideration.
  • meet nine times annually, on the first Tuesday of the month, at 11:30 AM. A standing conflict disqualifies a candidate. Three consecutive absences are grounds for removal from the Board.
  • are expected to serve on at least one standing committee of the Board. Most committees meet monthly.

The Board has an annual strategic planning retreat, usually in August.

New Trustees are expected to participate in a half-day orientation session scheduled at mutual convenience by the President's office. In addition, a variety of conferences and training opportunities is offered to all Trustees, on topics relevant to Board service. Trustees may take advantage of such offerings at College expense.

Through the year, a number of annual or occasional activities are planned, at which Board participation is expected or desired. These include the annual Legislative Breakfast, Commencement in May and December, the annual College Convocation in September and major ceremonies of various kinds.

Although there is no requirement, Trustees are encouraged to attend and participate in College activities and events, such as cultural programs, student awards programs, athletic events, and similar activities.

All Trustees should have familiarity or experience with proper Board decorum, including rules of order. All board members are expected to understand and practice their policy-making role while delegating day-to-day decision making and management of the College to the President.

Proper preparation for monthly meetings, including familiarity with agenda and proposed actions is an expectation of all governing boards. Familiarity with by-laws, key policies, and other instruments of government is also an expectation.

The President, the staff of the President's Office, and members of the President's Cabinet maintain a posture of appropriate responsiveness and support to Trustees seeking information related to their duties. Lines of effective communication are maintained, and the President is to be notified of any irregularities that may arise. This spirit of cooperation and support has traditionally been a governing strength for the College.

A confidentiality statement will need to be signed if you are chosen as a trustee.

Requirements
