WIC Infant Feeding Specialist Position Overview
The WIC Infant Feeding Specialist is responsible for vendor relations, store evaluations, formula orders, and follow up on referrals to other health providers. Oversees non-contract formula requests and serves as the consultant for questions and concerns regarding non-contract formula approval, issuance, drop shipment requests, and WIC Policy. The Infant Feeding Specialist will function as and train Certifying Authorities to determine program eligibility of WIC applicants, provide nutrition education to participants as individuals or in group settings according to State Agency and local Nutrition Education Plan, and work on special projects, as assigned.

Job Duties
- Participates as a member of the WIC administrative team to assess and recommend changes in local policies and procedures, participates on committees with internal and external partner agencies as requested, and participates in audits at WIC sites.
- Assists in conducting store evaluations as requested by TX WIC State Agency, provides initial and on-going vendor related trainings to WIC staff, handles vendor complaints from WIC clients, and is the direct point of contact for WIC formula orders and home deliveries.
- Evaluates formula requests, communicates with health care providers to clarify requests and makes approval determination of said formula requests and provides referrals to clients needing services not provided by WIC.
- Assists in training and evaluation of WIC Certifying Authorities and WIC Certification Specialists as needed on non-contract formula and also serves as the consultant for questions and concerns regarding non-contract formula issuance, drop-shipments, and WIC policy.
- Provides nutrition counseling to WIC clients and groups according to State Agency policies and local Nutrition Education Plan including Breastfeeding Promotion Plan.
- Conducts community outreach activities with Outreach Staff to inform community groups/agencies about WIC services and/or to provide nutrition education either individually or in a group setting as needed.
- Works as a Certifying Authority as needed and determines eligibility of WIC applicants according to State and Federal policies.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics (24 Semester credit hours in Food and Nutrition)
- Two (2) years of WIC experience.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License (TX upon hire)

- This is a full-time position.
- Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:30pm and one Saturday per month.
- Must be willing to flex hours when required, including weekends.

- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- This role primarily works in the WIC office which can be fast paced during peak hours.
- Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for long periods at a time.
